Job Summary

Spend the season baking at one of Ontario’s premier overnight summer camps alongside a fun, supportive and hardworking kitchen team. Camp Manitou, located in beautiful McKellar, Ontario, is currently hiring a Camp Baker / Pastry Assistant to join our kitchen team for the upcoming season.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys baking, working in a fast-paced environment and being part of a close-knit team serving large groups daily. The Baker / Pastry Assistant will support the pastry and kitchen team in preparing fresh baked goods, desserts, breads, pastries, cookies, cakes and specialty items while maintaining high standards of quality, cleanliness and food safety.

This is a full-time seasonal position running from June 2 to October 11. Salary will be discussed based on experience. Accommodations and all meals are provided. Staff live on-site as part of the camp community for the duration of the contract.

This position is a great fit for culinary students, aspiring bakers, gap year students or anyone looking for a unique and rewarding season in an incredible outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities

Baking & Pastry Preparation
Assist with preparing and baking breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, dessert bars, cinnamon buns and other specialty baked items according to recipes and kitchen standards.

Ingredient Preparation & Organization
Measure, prep, portion and organize ingredients to support efficient baking production and meal service.

Food Safety & Sanitation
Follow all food handling, hygiene, allergen and sanitation procedures to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.

Kitchen Support
Work closely with the pastry and kitchen team to ensure baked goods and desserts are prepared and served efficiently.

Dietary & Allergen-Friendly Baking
Assist with preparing allergy-conscious and dietary-friendly baked items when required.

Cleaning & Maintenance
Maintain organized baking stations, clean kitchen equipment and support overall kitchen cleanliness and efficiency.

Other Duties as Assigned
Be flexible and ready to assist with additional kitchen prep, meal service and team responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous baking, pastry, kitchen or food service experience is considered an asset
  • We are also happy to train enthusiastic candidates with a strong work ethic and passion for baking
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (Food Handler Certification is considered an asset)
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment
  • Strong teamwork, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team environment
  • Dependable, hardworking and eager to learn
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with physically active kitchen tasks
  • Must be able to live on-site at camp for the full duration of the contract
  • A positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a supportive camp environment
