Job Type: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 11 months, renewable yearly

Job Summary
We're looking for an amazing person with a combination of teaching and behaviour management experience to lead a classroom of neurodiverse adults with intellectual challenges. You would be responsible for teaching our curriculum which includes language, literacy and numeracy, independent living skills, social skills, health & leisure and career prep. You would provide teaching, coaching and support to a small group of young adults in the classroom, workplace, and community, under the direction of the Program Manager.

Hours of work are 8:45 - 5:15 daily. We close for two weeks for Winter holidays, 1 week for March Break and 3 weeks in the summer. The contract is for an 11 month term, which is renewable yearly. Join the wonderful Launch team and make a difference in the lives of our students!

Duties:

  • Plan and teach engaging classroom lessons based on our proprietary curriculum of foundation skills, including language, numeracy, digital literacy, health, etc.
  • Teach students life skills such as cooking, shopping, budgeting, transit, and workplace skills, etc.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment which supports the unique needs of our learners
  • Shape and facilitate student’s independence in the classroom, community and workplace
  • Facilitate the development of student’s social skills, conversations and friendships
  • Develop Key Goals Documents and Progress Reports; and facilitate Progress Conference meetings in consultation for each student during the year
  • Assess students' skills and abilities in various curriculum and life skills areas

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Behaviour, Teaching, etc.)
  • Experience working with children or adults with intellectual challenges, learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, etc.
  • Classroom teaching and lesson planning experience.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies for supporting learners
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm and creativity
  • Ability to inspire, lead and motivate students

Pay: From $50,000.00 per year
