About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and driven Drilling and Blasting Superintendent to lead and oversee drilling and blasting operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of all blasting activities while maintaining strict compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead, direct, and supervise drilling and blasting crews in daily operations.

· Utilize drones and survey equipment to support blast planning, mapping, and post-blast analysis.

· Plan and coordinate drilling and blasting schedules to meet production targets.

· Determine drilling patterns, hole depths, spacing, and burden based on site conditions and project requirements.

· Develop and implement blast designs to achieve optimal fragmentation and minimize environmental impact.

· Utilize blast design software to create, model, and refine blast plans.

· Ensure all personnel adhere to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

· Conduct safety meetings, hazard assessments, and field inspections.

· Monitor blast results and continuously improve performance and efficiency.

· Maintain accurate documentation of blast designs, execution, and outcomes.

· Oversee drilling equipment performance and provide technical guidance on maintenance and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

· 5–10+ years of experience in drilling and blasting operations.

· Experience using drones and survey equipment for site mapping, measurement, and blast evaluation.

· Proven experience leading and directing blast crews.

· Strong knowledge of blast design principles and field execution.

· Proficiency with blast design software (e.g., Strayos, ShotPlus, or similar).

· Demonstrated ability to determine drilling patterns and depths based on geological conditions.

· Mechanical knowledge of drilling equipment and troubleshooting.

· Strong understanding of safety regulations, blasting practices, and SOP compliance.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Education & Certifications

· Diploma or degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

· BC Mines Surface Blaster Certificate – First Class (required).

· Drone operators’ license.

· Valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions

· Field-based role in outdoor and potentially remote environments.

· Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and vibration.

· May require extended hours and travel.
