Job Description - Early Childhood Educator
Position: Early Childhood Educator - Summer Student Relief
Reporting to: Early Learning Programs coordinator
Summary
First Light Childcare Centre programming is developed based on the physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and cultural needs of individuals and groups. As an Early Childhood Educator – Summer Student Relief, you support the planning and implementation of programming that ensures the health, safety, and development of all children.
This role provides flexible coverage and support across multiple classrooms and age groups. As a float educator, you help ensure consistent, high-quality care during staff absences, busy periods, or other operational needs. Your work supports a nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and engage with culturally grounded programming.
Working collaboratively with childcare staff and the Early Learning Programs Coordinator, you help maintain a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.

What You’ll DoChild Development & Programming Support
- Support and promote the overall development of children
- Observe and assist in identifying developmental abilities and needs
- Assist in developing and maintaining developmentally appropriate programs (indoor and outdoor)
- Support programming that incorporates Indigenous cultural teachings and values
Documentation & Communication
- Create daily and weekly documentation on children’s development and activities for parents
- Record incident reports as required
- Communicate observations, updates, and concerns with the Childcare Coordinator and team
Health, Safety & Daily Care
- Support administering and recording medications when required and directed
- Perform diaper changes as needed
- Ensure childcare rooms are cleaned and sanitized according to required standards
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all children
Team Support & Coordination
- Provide flexible coverage across classrooms as needed
- Support staff during busy periods or absences
- Report daily to the Childcare Coordinator and assist in addressing emerging needs or concerns
Skills, Experience, and Requirements
We recognize that knowledge can come from lived experience, community care, and formal training.
To be successful in this role, you bring:
- Temporary Summer Certification through AECENL
- Valid RNC/Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and practices
- Experience in a childcare or summer camp setting planning and implementing activities
- Experience working with diverse families and communities
Pay: $18.06 per hour
