Full job description

A Welder Fitter for pressure vessels fabricates parts/components, and assembles, high-pressure metal tanks, boilers, and containers (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel) based on engineered drawings and ASME codes. Key tasks include fitting / aligning components with tight tolerances, often using MIG, Flux Core, TIG, or Stick welding, and performing pre/post-weld installation of components, along with proof-testing as required.

· Read and interpret blueprints to fit pieces and fittings for the fabrication of pressure vessels.

· Ability to use and understand measuring instruments.

· Knowledge and experience on the safe operation of Oxy-Acetylene cutting equipment.

· Lay-out and mark locations for nozzles, clips, stand-offs etc., as per the appropriate approved drawing(s).

· Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), (GTAW) Gas Tungsten arc Welding.

· Able to use Carbon Arc Gouging

· Ability to weld various materials, ie., carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, chromoly steel.

· Able to safely operate various grinder equipment.

· Maintain safe work practices.

· Take all safety training courses and apply them to daily work activities.

· Monitor parts usage and report on any material issues.

· Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance and repair techniques.

· Safely operate overhead cranes. Sets-up rigging according to load weights and handling needs.

· Keep work area clean and safe.

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Be able to pass ASME welding tickets open root.
  • Valid welding certification, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), certified in 1G, 2G, & 3G.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate verbally.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
