Full job description
Job Description – Project Engineer
As Project Engineer you will be responsible for all aspects of the mould making process from quoting to design review, acting as a direct liasion to customers, managing raw materials, sub-contractors & the production team. You will be accountable to customers, regularly communicating project progress. You will work closely with the shop floor manager & be accountable for meeting all project deliverables including tracking target cost vs actual to ensure profitability . Ensuring projects remain on time, on budget, reporting directly to the President.
Responsibilities:
· Coordinate raw materials ordering & sub-contract activities to ensure project delays are avoided. (ie. heat treat, cylindrical grinding, thread grinding, polishing, engraving, outsource machining, wire EDM)
· Prepare & send relevant information for outsource operations (ie. drawing creation when needed, provide info through snips of CAD and word documents)
Primary Contact with customers on information requests, project progress, & managing all steel safe adjustments & other relevant post trial measurement data & adjustments.
Shop floor - Production team Management
· Review mould components to identify best manufacturing route
· Make sure scope of work/target result is clearly identified
· Daily presence on shop floor to monitor progress, answer questions & confirm quality
· Ensure that all projects & steps are tracking on-time, within scope and within budget
· Develop a detailed project plan to track progress – submit progress reports to relevant customers
· Use appropriate procedures to manage changes in project scope, schedule, costs & communicate any financial or timing implications with customers
· Measure project performance using appropriate systems; ERP system & KPI's shared with team
Customer Relations
· Direct liaison to customers, leading internal & external production, design review & kick-off meetings
· Report and escalate any issues to management as needed
· Manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders.
· Foster & defend our corporate culture based on accountability & mutual respect for each other
Quoting
· Evaluate customer mould/part request for feasibility - make design recommendations for mouldability & DFM
· Cost & Lead time evaluation
Mould Design Support
· Brainstorm ideas with designers for multiple aspects of mould design - cooling, actions, function, etc.
· Design review of tools before releasing for customer preliminary review
· Comprehensive review of fully completed design evaluating for deficiencies such as; component & radius interferences, water line proximity, double check actions & any mechanical functions are correct.
Additional Responsibilities
· Documenting & formalizing existing processes
· Research of new equipment purchases & comparison proposal preparation
· Manage future business expansion plans
