Family Support Worker
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and community-centered Family Support Worker to support children, parents, caregivers, and extended families who are self-referred or referred by the Ministry of Children & Family Development. This role provides individualized and group support services rooted in Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw teachings, values, traditions, and community relationships. The Family Support Worker promotes family wellness, child safety, prevention, and healing through a culturally safe, respectful, and collaborative approach that builds on the strengths of families and works alongside community partners to meet family needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Case Management: Develop and implement family support plans in partnership with children, parents, caregivers, and extended family by identifying strengths, priorities, needs, and available resources. Establish meaningful short- and long-term goals that reflect family values and circumstances.
- Family-Centered Support: Provide ongoing case management by monitoring progress, adapting supports, coordinating services with community partners, and helping families access available services, rights, and culturally relevant supports.
- Collaboration & Consultation: Work closely with the K’wakwalat’si Child & Family Services team, community members, partner agencies, and service providers to ensure coordinated and effective care for families.
- Parenting & Life Skills Support: Provide in-home parenting support, mentoring, life skills development, and practical assistance to strengthen family functioning and well-being.
- Practical Assistance: Support families with transportation, accompaniment to meetings, court support, budgeting assistance, and accessing community services and resources.
- Cultural Safety & Community Wellness: Ensure services are delivered in a culturally safe, respectful, collaborative, and strengths-based manner that honors Kwakwaka’wakw teachings and family connections.Professional Development: Participate in training and learning opportunities provided by K’wakwalat’si Child and Family Services and ‘Na̱mg̱is Community Services.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in a Human Services field preferred, or a minimum of Grade 12.
- Familiarity with computer systems, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office.
- Minimum six months of experience in the human services field.
- Experience with report writing and maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to recognize when children and families are experiencing difficulties and respond in a supportive and respectful manner.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with colleagues, families, Elders, and other professionals.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw culture, community values, and the importance of family and kinship connections.

Salary:
- Compensation is based on the ‘Na̱mg̱is Salary Grid $41,625 – $48,304
- Candidates are typically offered compensation between the beginning and midpoint of the range.
- Pursuant to Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference may be given to qualified applicants of Aboriginal ancestry.
