Full job description

BIS Safety Software is a SaaS company on a mission to change how organizations manage safety, learning, and compliance. Video is how a growing share of that story gets told, and it needs one person behind it. We are looking for a Video Producer to own it.

About the role:

In this role, you will plan, shoot, and edit the video BIS puts into the world. If you are a videographer who grew into producing, or a producer who never stopped operating a camera, this is the role for you. We are not looking for someone to hand a shot list to, and we are not looking for someone who only shoots either. Our ideal candidate loves being involved in all areas of video production.
You will operate as part of a team, with a roster of freelance talent to call on; AI is already a key element of our editing and design. How you use them is your call. What we care about is the output: excellent, finished content, produced at the pace we need it. Someone genuinely multiplied by modern tooling will do well here. Someone who needs a week to turn around a two-minute cut will find the pace difficult.
Beyond producing, we want your judgment on where video effort actually pays off. You will own what gets made in video and at what level of polish, and shape that plan together with marketing leadership. The wider content agenda across podcast strategy, social, and campaigns sits with the marketing team, so you are not being asked to run all of content - you are being asked to own video, working collaboratively with the entire marketing team and our social media team members in particular.
Our current list of activities you will contribute on include our Safety Spotlight podcast, tutorial and how-to content, product feature videos, and commercial work for digital campaigns and tradeshows. Some flashy/exciting work in here, mixed with a lot of tutorial and feature highlights - the kind of content our clients (current and potential) will find useful and informative.
This in-person role is based out of our Sherwood Park, Alberta office. Expect occasional travel for client and event shoots.

In this role, you'll be expected to:

  • Plan, shoot, and edit video end to end, from concept through to the finished cut
  • Decide where video effort pays and bring us a plan for it rather than waiting for a brief
  • Produce our Safety Spotlight podcast and cut it down into shorts and learning clips
  • Create tutorial and how-to content that helps customers get value from what they have bought
  • Produce product feature videos on a regular cadence
  • Produce commercial and campaign video for digital advertising and tradeshows
  • Capture webinars, panels, and client site visits, and turn that footage into finished content
  • Run a shoot properly: schedule it, art direct it, direct the people in front of the camera, and deliver on the date you committed to
  • Use AI tooling and freelance support to get more made than one person could alone, while holding the quality bar on everything that ships
  • Keep footage and project files organized so our social team and others can find the work and run with it

You might be the right fit if you:

  • Ran video in-house or at an agency, owning the output rather than executing someone else's shot list
  • Operate a camera confidently and cut your own footage, equally at home behind the lens and in the timeline
  • Made people who are not performers look and sound good on camera
  • Held a production cadence over months, not just delivered strong one-off pieces
  • Turn work around quickly without the quality dropping
  • Use AI tools in your own workflow and have opinions about where they help and where they do not
  • Read a marketing plan and say which parts deserve video and which do not
  • Directed freelancers or a small crew and held them to a standard

Qualifications we are looking for:

  • 3+ years shooting and editing video professionally, in-house, agency, or freelance
  • A reel or portfolio showing range: long-form, short-form, and instructional or explainer work
  • Strong editing skills in a professional suite such as Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut
  • Hands-on camera, lighting, and audio skills for interview and studio setups. You will be operating the camera, not only directing it
  • Evidence of a sustained production cadence, not a highlight reel of one-offs
  • Working with AI video tools such as Kling, Runway, or Descript, and a clear sense of what they are good at and where they fall down

Bonus points if you have:

  • Motion graphics and animation experience. You will have freelance design support around you, though a producer who can do their own motion work is a nice bonus
  • Podcast production experience
  • Photography, particularly knowledge of lighting and composition
  • Worked in B2B, SaaS, or a technical or regulated industry
  • Colour grading and audio mastering
  • Built out a studio or production capability from a modest starting point

Compensation and benefits:

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Life insurance and disability insurance
  • Health spending account
  • Flexible working hours
  • On-the-job training and growth opportunities
  • Free on-site parking
Salary ranges are based on experience, reflecting the unique skillset each individual brings to the role.
