Full job description

We are looking for an experienced Payroll and Benefits Manager to lead and manage all payroll and benefits functions across the organization. This is currently a stand alone role responsible for owning the full payroll and benefits process from start to finish for approximately 500 hourly and salaried employees across Canada, with a growing employee population.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring payroll is processed accurately, employees are supported professionally, and all payroll, benefits, and compliance obligations are managed effectively. The role will also oversee U.S. payroll operations currently processed through a third party provider on a weekly basis.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Processing & Compliance:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all employee, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee weekly U.S. payroll processed through a third party provider and ensure accuracy, reporting, and compliance.
  • Ensure income tax compliance, including deductions, remittances, and year-end reporting.
  • Process T4s, Records of Employment (ROEs), and WSIB & EI submissions.
  • Manage garnishments, wage deductions, and statutory compliance reporting

Time & Attendance Management:

  • Ensure accurate tracking of hours worked, overtime, and leave balances.
  • Audit and reconcile payroll records to detect and resolve discrepancies.

Payroll & Benefits Support:

  • Manage and maintain employee benefits administration including enrollments, terminations, changes, and employee support.
  • Address payroll-related employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and benefits.
  • Process termination pay, severance, and outstanding vacation balances.
  • Financial Reporting & Reconciliation
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries and upload data to the accounting system.
  • Manage RRSP contributions, general ledger (GL) entries, and accruals.
  • Support quarterly and annual audits with payroll and benefits documentation

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of payroll processing and benefits administration experience.
  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification required or in progress. Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation is an asset.
  • Strong experience with payroll and HRIS systems, including troubleshooting backend issues, resolving discrepancies, and supporting process improvements
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, compliance requirements, accruals, and general ledger reconciliations
  • Experience collaborating with senior leadership on payroll reporting, compliance matters, and operational support
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage confidential employee information with professionalism
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Pay: $85,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
