Full job description
Inuulitsivik Health Centre (IHC) is committed to providing quality health and social services to Nunavimmiut living in the seven communities along the Hudson Bay coast. To contribute to our mission, we are currently seeking a Midwife.

Governed by the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services, IHC operates under the Health and Social Services Act while respecting the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement. - Between $41.47 and $58.86 per hour, depending on experience

- Remote work premium (without dependents) is between $203.66 and $240.25 per week, depending on the village

- High cost of living premium: between $58.40 and $188.72 per week, depending on the village

Responsibilities:
Each midwifery practice is adapted to the village it serves. Therefore, differences exist in how each village team organizes its practice, Nonetheless, each Nunavik midwife and student is responsible for certain basic tasks.
These include:
- Provide comprehensive pre, peri and postpartum care: share responsibility for all aspects of perinatal care according to level of experience and skill development
- Provide well woman care and education for women from adolescence to menopause i.e. pap tests, STD counseling, family planning counseling, administering and dispensing various forms of contraception, breast self exam, common gynecological health issues
- Provide well baby care and counseling to 6 weeks of age
- Ensure continuity of care and provide updated reports to team members, replacing midwives, and any care providers who have been consulted or to whom partial care has been referred.
- Share call with other midwifery team members
- Help organize and carry out emergency transfers (Medevacs)
- Take, prepare, and assess laboratory specimens according to maternity guidelines and protocols; treat and refer as necessary
- Lead and update prenatal group sessions - nutrition in pregnancy, common complaints of pregnancy, preparation for birth, feeding in first year of life etc.
- Participate in the development of public health programs and teaching in the community (i.e. health related conferences, radio programs on nutrition, FAS, AIDS, family violence circles, encounters with elders and young people...)
- Help foster increased competence and participation in all aspects of perinatal care by sharing knowledge and skills with student midwives, health care workers, maternity workers and other midwives
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date charts
- Collect and collate statistics
- Participate in research projects
- Participate in the daily maintenance and running of the maternity, ordering supplies, verifying and stocking equipment etc.
- Be an active member of the council of Doctors, Pharmacists, Dentists and Midwives of the health center
- Work collaboratively within and be accountable to a multidisciplinary team that includes other health care providers and community members
- Participate in and alternately chair Perinatal Committee (a subcommittee of the CPDPM that meets weekly for case review, development and updating of practice protocols and other mandated tasks)
- Participate in regular staff meetings and peer review and help maintain good communication among team members Participate in the orientation of new and replacing health care workers, doctors, nurses and midwives
- Maintain participation in the Nunavik Midwifery Advisory Committee
- Participate in Nunavut/Nunavik midwives periodic teleconference case review
- Participate in regional, national and international midwifery and women's health conferences
- Contribute to the evaluation of care, education, skills, policies and procedures from a midwifery perspective, according to standards of midwifery practice and to the Inuulitsivik philosophy of maternity care.
- Serve pregnant, birthing and post-partum women according to their individual needs and in ways that assure physical safety and emotional security within the framework of Inuulitsivik philosophy and protocols for practice
- Assume all other tasks related to her responsibilities and functions decided by the maternity team that may contribute to assuring culturally adapted quality care according to the Inuulitsivik philosophy and principles of practice and education.
- May have to work at a different maternity to answer to specific needs in term of services at the request of the DPHS.

Requirements
Scolarity Requirement:
- Bachelor's degree in midwifery practice
- Neonatal resuscitation certificate
- Obstetric emergency certificate (dated less than three (3) years)
Experience Requirements:
- Three (3) years of experience as a midwife
Other Requirements:
- Be a member of the Ordre des Sages-Femmes du Québec
- Knowledge of Inuit culture
- Functional English
- French is an asset
- Inuktitut is an asset
