POSITION PURPOSE:

Septimatech is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Designer to join our Engineering Team. Our Designers are creative problem-solvers who turn ideas into practical solutions that help customers achieve faster, simpler, and more repeatable packaging changeovers.

You’ll be part of a collaborative, cross-functional Team that includes Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Customer Service, all working together to deliver the highest quality and most innovative changeover solutions in the industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proficient in 2D, 3D, and solid modeling (SolidWorks required along with Inventor) to produce detailed mechanical layouts, models, and drawings independently.
  • Collaborate with customers, sales, project managers, designers, and engineers to define project requirements and ensure design intent aligns with customer needs.
  • Research, design, evaluate, maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Specify system components, prepare bills of material (BOMs) or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Apply design and fabrication knowledge to ensure project functionality, manufacturability, reliability, and cost goals are achieved.
  • Ability to check completed layouts, drawings, ECNs, and BOMs for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendations to installation/field service technicians.
  • Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Develop requirement specifications and documentation, perform project risk assessments, implement mitigation strategies, and prepare product operating instructions and manuals.
  • Engage in meetings that focus on pre- and post-measure-up and design.
  • Contribute to multiple projects by tracking design progress, maintaining timelines, supporting project management activities, and engaging with customers during engineering reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of engineering design experience in a manufacturing environment
  • The candidate must have either a 3-year mechanical engineering technology/technologist diploma or a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • The individual will have working knowledge of mechanical parts, strength of materials and their mechanical properties.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and Inventor, or comparable 3D design software, with experience in both modeling and generating mechanical drawings.
  • Experience and understanding of ePDM is preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates with CMM experience (Faro-Arm, 3D scanning).
  • Must possess solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able and willing to work in a team environment.
  • Must be a self-starter and work with minimal direction.
  • Must be willing and able to learn our products and processes.
  • Requires travel (domestic / international) up to 25% of work time. Must be able to travel on short notice.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Primarily works in an office environment at a computer workstation, with occasional flexibility to work from home.
  • Will be required to work in either a manufacturing/machining facility and or consumer product processing facility.
  • Individual must be willing and able to work in and around machines and equipment.
  • Travel to customer sites to understand application and gather information needed for the design work as required.
  • Must hold a valid Canadian Passport and be willing and able to travel both nationally and internationally randomly throughout the year, hold a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain and drive rental cars.
