CNC Machinist

Reports To

Manufacturing Supervisor

Summary

The CNC machinist is responsible for producing quality parts on a variety of manual machines such as lathe, mill and radial drill. This position will obtain information such as job instructions from company documentation, the “traveller”, and will ensure that all work is complying with environmental, quality, health, and safety standards.

Job Responsibilities & Duties

· Read and interpret drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, tools to be used, materials for the job

· Setup, operate and maintain computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to perform precision operations.

· Detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment

· Read and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, tools to be used, materials for the job.

· Meet production schedules and timelines to deliver products on schedule

· Awareness and execution of relevant policies and procedures related to quality, environmental, and health and safety

· Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

· Measure, examine and identify defects, to ensure conformance to specifications and drawings

· Keep up to date with industry standards and best practices

· Work in a safe, team-oriented environment and participate as an active member of the implementation and execution of ‘Lean’ principles

· Maintain company standards and conform to the requirements of the Quality Management System

· Participates regularly and actively in all aspects of the health and safety program including but not limited to safe work practices, habits, industrial hygiene and good housekeeping.

Skills/Qualifications

· High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

· Journeyperson / Red Seal Machinist certification or, currently enrolled/willing to enroll in apprenticeship required

· Minimum of 3+ years’ experience operating manual lathe and milling machines in a manufacturing environment

· Knowledge of Fanuc, Haas and Fagor controllers an asset

· Positive attitude with ability to ensure compliance with all quality, environmental, and health and safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations

· Strong communication skills, both verbally and written.

· Strong work ethic and positive team attitude with the ability to work independently with little supervision

· Advanced knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators and scales

· Advanced knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an in-depth understanding of geometric tolerance and dimensions

· Advanced knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines

· Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry and algebra for the purpose calculating material fabrication

· Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment

· Able to fabricate new parts to replace defective parts during machine setup, maintenance, or overhaul

· Demonstrated ability to operate an overhead crane in a safe manner

· Must be adaptable to changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events

· Have a positive team-oriented attitude, strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
