U3 Soccer Program Leader (Parent & Child Program)

Maple Leaf Cavan FC is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic U3 Program Leader to run our parent-and-child introductory soccer program for players aged 2–3 years old (born in 2023).

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with young children and families and wants to help introduce the game of soccer in a fun, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment.

Our U3 program is aligned with the Ontario Soccer Grassroots Development Matrix (Active Start stage) and focuses on movement, coordination, confidence, and enjoyment of sport rather than competition.

Position Overview

The U3 Program Leader will lead weekly sessions where parents participate on the field with their child while the leader guides activities, demonstrates movements, and organizes fun soccer-themed games.

Sessions are designed to introduce young children to basic movement skills, ball familiarity, and social interaction through structured play.

The Program Leader will also mentor Game Leaders (youth helpers) who assist during sessions.

Schedule

• Crestwood Secondary School - Tuesdays 5:30-7:00pm
• Maple Leaf Park - Wednesdays 5:15-6:45pm
• 11 week season, May 26 - Aug 12, no games week of June 22nd

Program Delivery

• Lead weekly U3 parent-and-child soccer sessions designed by Maple Leaf Cavan FC
• Demonstrate activities and guide parents through the session
• Create a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment for families

Session Structure

Typical sessions will include:

• Movement warm-ups
• Ball exploration activities
• Fun skill-based games
• Parent-child interaction activities
• Short small-sided play or free play

Field Organization

• Set up cones, mini goals, and activity stations
• Ensure the field environment is safe and organized
• Help manage transitions between activities

Mentorship

• Provide direction toGame Leaders / youth assistants
• Help them learn how to work with young children

Communication

• Welcome families and answer basic program questions
• Encourage parent participation and engagement

Qualifications

Ideal candidates may include:

• Teachers or teacher candidates
• Early Childhood Education (ECE) students
• Kinesiology or sport management students
• Soccer coaches or mature players
• Individuals with experience running youth programs or camps

Requirements:

• Comfortable working with very young children and parents
• Energetic, positive, and organized
• Strong communication skills
• Interest in youth sport development

Maple Leaf Cavan FC is a volunteer-run soccer club serving over2,000 players in the Peterborough region. Our programs focus on providing a positive first experience in sport, while supporting long-term player development and community engagement.

The U3 program is often a child’s first experience with organized sport, and our goal is to make it fun, welcoming, and memorable for both players and their families.
