Position Summary:

  • The successful candidate will design, document, implement and test our next generation of E1553 products. They will enable our proprietary OFDM-based modem technology to increase the communication speeds of aircraft networks by orders of magnitude. Responsibilities include requirements generation and allocation, systems verification and validation and system/product integration. The candidate will work directly with the Director of Engineering and other technical team members as a key member of the product development team.

Principal Duties:

  • Produce and/or review technical documents, specifications and standards;
  • Support the development and allocation of system level requirements;
  • Review, develop and document system level concepts of operation;
  • Support the project team addressing requirements, design, integration, and test issues;
  • Support system/product integration;
  • Verify and validate system designs and implementation to ensure conformance with functional and performance specifications and customer requirements;
  • Develop test case and provide traceability against system requirements; and
  • Collaborate with other development teams including FPGA, Hardware and Software; as well as Quality Assurance to enhance and streamline engineering development processes.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience working as a systems engineer on electronics systems in the aerospace/defense sector
  • Experience in the conduct of testing, use of automated test tools, requirements review, and structured testing techniques
  • Experience working within systems engineering processes governing change and configuration management

Skills - Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and the ability to be creative, persistent and stay with a problem until it is resolved;

Skills - Desired:

  • Hardware and/or FPGA design experience
  • Knowledge of safety analysis techniques (FTA, FMECA)
  • Experience with Requirements Traceability tools (e.g. DOORS)
  • Test script development (Knowledge of TCL or other test scripting experience is highly desirable)
  • Development experience with CPU subsystems
  • Development experience in the following technologies: OFDM modem development, DDR4, PCIe, FGPA or ASIC design
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553C protocol
  • Experience in a military/avionics environment (DO-254/DO-178C development process)

Skills - Personal Relation:

  • Able to interact positively with employees at all levels in the organization
  • Strong English communication and writing skills are essential

Miscellaneous:

  • Must be able to meet requirements of controlled-goods certification (Minimum 5 years of Canadian residency)
  • It would be an asset to be able to successfully complete a security clearance background check to the level of Secret (may require 10 years Canadian residency)
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision, prioritizing work activities appropriately
  • Good organizational skills
