Tasks and Responsibilities

The special events organizer is an important part of the Kamloops Arts Council summer events plans. We are working on two festivals (Children's Arts Festival, and Art in the Park), multiple exhibitions, and collaborating with other organizations on events. This role requires skills in time management, event/project management, and organizations.

Responsibilities:

- Assist our Program Manager with planning our largest events of the year, this includes two festivals, and multiple art exhibitions

- Help organize our Canada day festival by booking and scheduling performers

- Assist with reviewing applications for exhibiting at the festival, the layout for the festival and organizing the exhibitors

- Working with the volunteer coordinator to schedule and orient volunteers for the festival

- Assist with planning Children's Arts Festival by booking and scheduling performers, assist with the applications for the festival, and planning the layout, and coordinating with collaborating organizations for the festivals

- Help with promoting the festivals and our exhibitions at other festivals, markets, and events

- Assisting the Program Manager at meetings with stakeholders, sponsors, and committee members

The special events organizer will gain first-hand experience in event and project management, build connections with multiple arts and nonprofits organizations, and be mentored by people who have been in project and event management for more than 10 years.

Requirements

  • All candidates must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or have Refugee Status
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
  • Must pass a Criminal Record Check
  • Class 5 Driver’s License – with own vehicle (preference)
  • A recent graduate of college/university is an asset (preference will be given to a candidate with training in Visual or Performing Arts, or Event Management)
  • Demonstrated large-scale program management and event-planning experience
  • This is a Canada Summer Jobs Position

Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 12 weeks

Pay: $18.25 per hour
