Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sonographer to join our outpatient fertility clinic. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced clinical environment, providing high-quality ultrasound services within a specialized fertility setting, while ensuring clinical accuracy, professionalism, and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

The Sonographer is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with established standards set by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). This role ensures the production of high-quality, consistent, and properly documented imaging to support accurate clinical interpretation. The Sonographer is also responsible for maintaining patient safety through adherence to Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) and infection prevention and control protocols, while consistently delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality patient care in line with clinic policies.

Sonographers are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Ultrasound department.

The sonographer shall:

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations using appropriate techniques to ensure complete and high-quality imaging
  • Ensure all patient records are accurately completed, including identifiers, examination details, and referring physician information
  • Review and supplement clinical history when required
  • Complete and appropriately sign or initial all examination documentation
  • Produce diagnostic-quality images with correct annotation, measurements, and sufficient anatomical coverage for interpretation
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, variances, or unusual occurrences
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols at all times
  • Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, and dignity throughout all interactions
  • Ensure proper patient identification and examination tracking on all imaging studies to maintain diagnostic accuracy and workflow integrity
  • Participate in quality control activities, including equipment checks, maintenance, servicing coordination, and imaging
  • Ensure optimal image quality through appropriate technique selection, including transducer choice, imaging parameters, and proper anatomical coverage
  • Contribute to ongoing patient safety monitoring and continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with all professional, regulatory, and clinic standards, including scope of practice and codes of conduct

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Sonography or have obtained certification by the American Registry of diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARMDS) or Sonography Canada
  • Member of national and provincial professional organization (CMRTO)
  • Compliance with Sonography Canada’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program requirements of 40 continuing education credits per triennium.
  • Compliance with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) requirments for 30 continuing education credits per triennium.
  • Compliance with CMRTO requirement for 25 continuing education credits per year.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of clinical ultrasound experience in a diagnostic imaging setting
  • Mandatory experience in Operating Room (OR) ultrasound
  • Preferred experience in ultrasound scanning, with extensive background in fertility, gynecology, and obstetrical imaging
  • Proven ability to perform high-quality diagnostic imaging independently in a high-volume clinical environment.
