Position Overview

The General Manager (GM) of Moose Mulligans Public Eatery plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless daily operations, exceptional guest experiences, and a motivated, high-performing team. This leader is a strategic thinker, operational expert, and skilled communicator who thrives in a fast-paced pub environment. Reporting directly to ownership, the GM will drive success by fostering a collaborative culture, maintaining regulatory compliance, and championing continuous growth.

· Pre-shift stand-ups: Brief, focused meetings before each shift to align team goals, discuss menu specials, and review service priorities.

· Weekly Staff Meetings: Structured sessions to address operations, guest feedback, training opportunities, and process improvements.

· Conflict Resolution Strategies: Utilizes professional techniques such as active listening, mediation, and solution-focused discussions to maintain a positive work environment.

· Performance Coaching & Feedback: Conducts regular one-on-ones and conducts employee annual reviews to provide constructive feedback, reinforce strengths, gain insight, and create personal development plans.

· Cross-Department Coordination: Ensures clear communication between front-of-house, kitchen, and bar teams to optimize efficiency and guest experience.

Operational Expertise & Risk Management

The GM ensures Moose Mulligans operates efficiently, profitably, and within all regulatory requirements by:

· Employment Standards Compliance: Sound knowledge of BC labor laws, scheduling fairness, and workplace policies.

· Liquor Compliance & Licensing: Enforces Serving It Right policies, over-service prevention, and ID verification protocols.

· Food Safety & Workplace Safety: Ensures staff adherence to Food Safe guidelines, sanitation protocols, and emergency response procedures.

· Incident & Risk Management: Proactively identifies risks, establishes preventive measures, and responds swiftly to operational challenges.

· Budgeting & Cost Control: Manages labor costs, food/beverage costs, and revenue forecasts to meet financial targets.

Guest Experience & Community Engagement

A successful GM understands that happy guests drive business growth. Key responsibilities include:

· Ensuring Consistent Hospitality Standards: Training teams to provide seamless, friendly, and efficient service at all times.

· Guest Recovery & Complaint Handling: Taking ownership of guest concerns and turning negative experiences into positive outcomes.

· Menu Knowledge & Innovation: Collaborating with the kitchen and bar team to maintain fresh, appealing, and high-quality offerings.

· Community Involvement: Building relationships with local businesses, tourism organizations, and community groups to promote the venue.

· KPI Tracking & Data Analysis: Using key performance metrics to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.

· Quarterly Business Reviews: Presenting strategic growth plans and operational insights to the partnership.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Min 3 years of experience in a senior management role within a high-volume restaurant or pub.
  • Strong understanding of BC employment standards, liquor laws, and risk management.
  • Proven track record in team leadership, financial oversight, and guest service excellence.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement, innovation, and fostering a positive work culture.

Education: High school diploma required; hospitality or culinary management diploma/degree highly preferred.

Certifications

  • Serving It Right (BC)
  • Food Safe Certification
  • BCLC Certification (for Lottery Sales)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs and stay active throughout shifts.
