Location: Camp Facility (On-Site Residential/Seasonal as applicable)
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising age-appropriate recreational activities for campers. These activities may include games, sports, theater, crafts, campfires, and nature-based/environmental stewardship programs. The Recreation Coordinator also supervises all waterfront activities in the role of a certified lifeguard and provides first aid support when needed.
This position plays a key role in fostering a camp community that values diversity, inclusion, and positive group dynamics. Active participation in camp life, engagement with campers, and collaboration with volunteers are essential components of this role.
Key Responsibilities
Recreation Planning & Facilitation
Plan, coordinate, and lead recreational programs in collaboration with the Camp Director.
Adapt activities to be age-appropriate and aligned with the developmental needs of each camp group.
Actively participate in all recreation sessions and encourage camper engagement.
Support the creation of a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
Waterfront Supervision & Safety
Supervise all waterfront activities as an active, certified lifeguard.
Conduct safety checks and monitor water conditions to ensure a safe environment.
Enforce all water safety rules and respond promptly and professionally to emergencies.
First Aid & Emergency Response
Serve as a first aid responder during camp activities.
Provide immediate care in accordance with current first aid and CPR certifications.
Report all incidents and follow camp emergency protocols.
Record-Keeping & Administration
Maintain a detailed daily log of tasks completed, safety checks performed, hours worked, and breaks taken.
Assist with documentation and reporting as required by camp policies.
Professional Conduct & Collaboration
Work closely with the Camp Director and other camp staff to ensure smooth delivery of all recreation programming.
Participate in general camp activities and model positive behavior and leadership.
Perform all other duties relevant to recreation and supervision as assigned by the Camp Director.
Qualifications
Current lifeguard certification (e.g., NLS or equivalent).
Current CPR and First Aid certification (required).
Experience leading recreational programs, ideally in a camp or youth-oriented environment.
Strong leadership, communication, and group-management skills.
Ability to work outdoors, remain active throughout the day, and respond effectively in emergency situations.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and respectful camp community.
Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 8 weeks
Pay: $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
