The Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Membership Lead.
The Membership Lead is responsible for the recruitment of new members and the retention of existing members. This position will be responsible for identifying specific opportunities to both maintain and increase membership. Relationship-building, networking, and outreach with potential and existing members to meet departmental goals will be a large part of this position.
Reporting to the Vice-President, Member Engagement and Development, the position of Membership Lead provides support in all areas of membership at CANS and provides a point of contact for association members and the public for information regarding CANS membership and value proposition.
Base salary range $50,000 – $60,000 based on experience. Other benefits include commission structure in place, health benefits, matching RRSP contributions at 5% of base salary, vacation and personal days, wellness account, access to free parking and onsite fitness facilities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prospecting potential leads, recruiting new members, meeting and managing sales targets.
- Managing CANS member database and the retention of existing members.
- Onboarding new and existing members, presenting the CANS Membership value proposition.
- Managing competing priorities, while still meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work.
- Reviewing, implementing and tracking the CANS Advantage member benefits program with a focus on unique and exclusive deals for CANS members.
- Building and implementing the yearly CANS member engagement activities.
- Managing CANS annual membership renewals, tracking receivables.
- Working with the Vice-President, Member Engagement & Development and committee chair, building the Membership Committee package, reporting to the committee accordingly, taking meeting minutes and scheduling committee meetings for the year.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
- Strong prospecting skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of basic math and accounting principles.
- A demonstrated commitment to experiential, lifelong learning, and professional development.
- Highly developed organizational and time-management skills.
- Experience working with a customer relations management system is an asset.
Experience and Education:
- A proven sales record.
- Bachelor of Commerce, BBA, or other business-related education/experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset to run the department as an independent business.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Strong computer skills. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in a similar role would be an asset.
- Experience working in a non-profit environment would be an asset.
- Basic knowledge of the general structure and organization of the non-residential construction industry.
- Experience in marketing, communications and business development would be an asset.

Working Conditions:
- Mostly indoor office environment.
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Considerable mental and visual concentration.
