Church St. Taphouse (Comox, BC)

Locally owned & operated, Church St. Taphouse is a cornerstone of downtown Comox. Known for its distinct timber-frame aesthetic, inclusive atmosphere, and the valley's premier selection of BC craft beer. We are seeking an experienced leader to champion our mission as the community gathering place, build upon our commitment to customer service excellence, and ensure a fun, high-energy environment every shift.

The Position

This is a unique, full-time permanent position (approx. 35 hours a week) with a focus on supporting and leading the Front of House (FOH) team at Church St. Taphouse. You will manage, mentor, train, and onboard our talented FOH staff (hosts and servers). With almost 25 FOH staff, this is a busy, challenging, and rewarding role. You will be supported by existing management, but will have the autonomy to update our FOH training program to accomplish mutual objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Supervision: Serve as the direct lead supervisor for all FOH staff and the key guest experience contact. Most shifts will be night shifts and availability on Friday and Saturday nights is a must.
  • Training & Development: Onboard new hires with an updated orientation program and provide ongoing support and training for existing staff. This includes a specific focus on building a consistent service model, improving tableside people skills, and enhancing sales prowess. Help refresh the service model around "The Taphouse Way: Professional, Casual".
  • Floor Management: Oversee daily FOH operations, managing floor flow, seating rotations (especially during peak patio hours), and resolving guest concerns with grace and speed. You will work Floor Manager/Expo shifts to monitor progress, provide support and feedback, and enhance guest experience.
  • Operational Excellence: Uphold our zero-tolerance policy for harassment, acting as the primary point of contact for maintaining a safe, inclusive environment. Ensure food quality standards are met by working closely with the Back of House (BOH) to manage ticket times and plate consistency.
  • Sales & Administration: Help the company meet financial objectives through close tracking of server and team goals (e.g., average guest check). Assist with scheduling, bar inventory counts, and daily cash-out reconciliations.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 2+ years of leadership in a high-volume taphouse or restaurant environment.
  • Knowledge: A genuine passion for hospitality and customer service excellence. Ability to educate guests on our 20+ rotating taps, BC wines, and spirits and food program
  • Certifications: Valid Serving It Right
  • The "X-Factor": A calm-under-pressure personality. You can handle a line-up out the door and a keg blowing mid-rush without losing your smile.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation:
  • $26 per hour
  • Part of manager tip out for all floor hours worked (approx $2-$5/hour)
  • Bonus Program: Up to $300/month based on average guest cheque metrics, other
  • Potential for 2 - 4 serving shifts per month as well.
  • Benefits:
  • Health Plan: $2,000 coverage per year, effective after 1 month (9-month waiting period waived).
  • Free meal for each shift and 50% off food off shift. Reciprocal at RAD Brewing as well.
  • Free after-shift drink.
  • 2 weeks paid vacation (10 days)
