THE CHALLENGE

Perform mechanical, electrical, and control system maintenance, diagnostics, commissioning, and troubleshooting on diesel-powered generator systems with minimal supervision in the field. Support critical power projects in remote and industrial environments while ensuring equipment reliability, performance, and safety.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Commission, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair diesel generator systems ranging from standby power units to large industrial generators exceeding 2–3 MW.
  • Perform pre-commissioning, startup, testing, and operational verification of new diesel generator installations.
  • Conduct load bank testing and performance validation to ensure equipment meets operational and client requirements.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, control, and auxiliary systems associated with diesel power generation equipment.
  • Supervise assembly, installation, and maintenance crews while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
  • Record and verify critical torque, alignment, and commissioning values in accordance with manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
  • Document construction progress, commissioning activities, deficiencies, corrective actions, and service reports with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, and corrective repairs on customer-owned and rental fleet equipment.
  • Utilize specialized diagnostic equipment including electronic test instruments, engine diagnostic software, laser alignment tools, pressure gauges, and other precision measurement equipment.
  • Work safely and consistently in accordance with company HSE policies, procedures, and client site requirements.
  • Support remote field assignments throughout British Columbia and other project locations as required.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and emergency response activities when required.
  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and quality control oversight to junior technicians and field personnel.
  • Deliver the X-FACTOR experience through technical excellence, professionalism, and exceptional customer service.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in diesel power generation, industrial engines, or related heavy equipment environments.
  • Demonstrated experience commissioning diesel generators and supporting startup activities.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex system issues independently.
  • Experience with large diesel engine-generator packages in the 2–3 MW range.
  • Experience performing load bank testing and interpreting test results.
  • Experience supervising field crews, contractors, or installation teams.
  • Experience working in remote industrial environments including construction, energy, mining, utility, or data center projects.
  • Data center power generation experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Journeyman certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician, Millwright, Electrician, Industrial Mechanic, or related trade is considered an asset.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Relevant trade certification or technical training is preferred.

Candidates must be capable of:

  • Living and working remotely throughout British Columbia for extended project durations.
  • Supervising assembly and installation crews.
  • Recording and validating critical torque and alignment values.
  • Documenting construction and commissioning progress.
  • Commissioning diesel generator systems.
  • Performing load testing and operational verification.
  • Troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and control system issues independently.

PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  • Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to X-Group safety policies and SOPs.
  • PPE: Ability to wear required gear (steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection).
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, and navigate an active industrial shop floor.
