Halfway River First Nation was originally located on the Chowade River (Known as the Stoney River by Elders). Through a relocation into IR 168, Halfway River First Nation became situated where they are today, north of the Halfway River approximately 75km northwest of Fort St John. About the Role
Halfway River First Nation is seeking a dedicated, community-minded and culturally sensitive Education Coordinator Assistant to support the Education Coordinator in delivering education, training, and employment-related services to community members.
This position ensures continuity of operations when the Education Coordinator is absent and assists with administrative duties, student support, training initiatives, and employment readiness programming.
The role requires strong organizational skills, cultural awareness, professionalism, and strict confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Provide administrative and programming support to the Education Coordinator
- Act as primary contact for the Education Office when the coordinator is out of office
- Respond to inquiries from students, parents, leadership, training providers, and employers
- Maintain secure and confidential student and client records.
Training & Employment Support
- Assist community members in identifying training and employment opportunities
- Support applications for skills training programs, certifications, and apprenticeships
- Maintain a current list of employment, training, and funding opportunities
- Help coordinate employment readiness workshops (resume writing, interview preparation, job search skills)
- Liaise with training institutions, employers, and partner organizations
- Assist with tracking participant progress and reporting outcomes
- Support employment-related funding applications where applicable
Community Engagement & Communication
- Assist with organizing education, training, and employment events
- Communication opportunities within the community
- Support culturally relevant and community-based learning initiatives
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare meeting agendas and take minutes
- Maintain spreadsheets, databases, and filing systems
- Assist with policy updates and documentation reviews
- Assist with printing and typing up cheque requisitions monthly
Requirements
Education
- Diploma or certificate in Office Administration, Education, Human Services, Employment Services, Indigenous Studies, or related field
- OR
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
Experience
- 1–3 years administrative experience
- Experience working in a First Nations community or Indigenous organization preferred
- Experience in education, training coordination, or employment services is an asset
- Experience supporting funding applications and reporting processes
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of First Nations governance structures and community protocols
- Knowledge of post-secondary funding and training/employment program processes
- Familiarity with workforce development, job readiness programming, or apprenticeship pathways
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently in the coordinator’s absence
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism
Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
