Location: Camp Facility (On-Site Residential/Seasonal as applicable)
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Cook is responsible for the safe, timely preparation of pre-planned meals as determined by the director of each camp. This role ensures that all meals meet health and safety standards, accommodate dietary needs, and contribute to the overall positive experience of campers and staff. The Cook also oversees kitchen cleanliness, supervises the Assistant Cook, and manages food purchasing within budget guidelines. This position requires the cook to live on site for the duration of the employment term.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Safety
Prepare and serve all meals according to pre-planned menus.
Maintain a valid FoodSAFE certification and adhere to all associated standards.
Ensure strict compliance with government regulations on food handling, preparation, storage, and sanitation.
Provide safe, appropriate meal options for participants with dietary restrictions or allergies.
Kitchen Maintenance & Equipment
Maintain a clean, sanitary kitchen and food preparation workspace at all times.
Monitor the condition of kitchen equipment; report maintenance needs promptly to the Executive Director.
Ensure safe operation and proper cleaning of all kitchen appliances, utensils, and surfaces.
Supervision & Teamwork
Supervise the Assistant Cook and assign tasks as appropriate.
Maintain a professional and cooperative relationship with the Executive Director, board members, and other staff to support smooth summer program operations.
Purchasing & Inventory
Shop for groceries and necessary food supplies weekly, staying within the approved budget.
Track inventory and report any supply shortages or concerns.
Administrative Duties
Keep accurate records in the kitchen logbook, including daily tasks completed, hours worked, and breaks taken.
Qualifications
Valid and current FoodSAFE certification (required).
Experience cooking for groups or in a camp, cafeteria, or similar setting (preferred).
Strong understanding of safe food handling practices and dietary accommodation.
Ability to work efficiently, manage time well, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with camp leadership and staff.
Ability to supervise an assistant and maintain a positive, productive kitchen environment.

Pay: $22.00 per hour
