Practice Details:
The Site Chief of Staff is a physician administrator and leader who works to achieve a collaborative working relationship between physicians and administration based on the “One IH†culture and its objectives.
Core Accountabilities:
Leads the medical staff in implementing the “One IH†Quality, Risk & Accreditation Vision, Mission and Goals
Chairs the local quality committee or co-chairs it with another member of the management team (this duty may be delegated to another qualified member of the Medical Staff but, if so, the Site Chief of Staff must be an active member of the committee)
Ensures that the Site Quality Committee is aligned and engaged with the Regional Quality Committee, Interior Quality and Excellence Steering Team (iQUEST), the IH Quality Core Leadership Team and all IH QR&A strategic goals
Mentors and coaches those physicians appointed to quality committees
Actively participates and ensures physician participation in risk management and accreditation activities
Leads the development, implementation and adherence to the medical staff resource plan and the IH physician recruitment, credentialing, privileging, appointment and reappointment processes
Oversees local medical staff resource planning and recruitment by working with the local Medical Staff, Local Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), Regional MAC, and Senior and Executive Medical Director to develop and keep current a physician resource plan for the site.
Ensures that the physician recruitment, appointment and reappointment process complies with the appropriate IH Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Policies; provides secretariat services for this process
Ensures physician professional conduct and manages the performance, behavior and, if necessary, discipline of members of the Medical Staff
Is accountable for medical governance as outlined in the IH Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Policies
Models professional, respectful behavior in the work place
Manages clinical performance issues wherever they are identified in the site, manages disruptive physician behavior in accordance with IH policies, and works to develop rehabilitation programs for physicians whose performance/behavior does not meet acceptable standards
Addresses complaints against physicians in a proactive and timely manner, making sure all appropriate steps are followed and documented in accordance with IH policies
As a physician and clinical expert, obtains the necessary knowledge and training to participate in full alignment with the Hospital Senior Management Team; engages the Medical Staff in understanding and helping to execute the management plan
As an active member of the Site Senior Leadership Team, participates in all relevant administrative/operational functions such as budget planning, utilization management, and strategic planning
Takes the lead in engaging medical staff members in understanding and implementing decisions made by the Senior Leadership Team as those decisions affect physicians
Participates in the IH Physician Integration Leadership Development curriculum
Identifies, mentors and develops upcoming physician leaders
Assists department heads to fulfill their roles and responsibilities effectively
Supports the IH academic mandate and its implementation at the hospital level
Actively leads annual performance reviews, coaching and reappointment of the site Department Heads
Completes other tasks as required from time to time
Qualifications:
- Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC or the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Dentist or Midwife in B.C. . Medical leadership experience and demonstrated effectiveness. Clinically active physician or nurse practitioner within Interior Health (credentialed or eligible for credentialling, and eligible for privileging if determined to be required for aspects of this role). A Master’s Degree in hospital, healthcare, business administration, or an equivalent degree is preferred.

Estimated Gross Income
194,347-242,934 Compensation will be based on medical leadership experience for the 0.15 FTE position
