Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled, safety-focused 45-Ton Picker (Boom Truck) Operator to join our Kamloops operation. This role involves operating boom trucks and crane-equipped units to load, unload, and transport rail and industrial equipment across construction sites, yards, highways, and off-road environments.
The ideal candidate is professional, mechanically inclined, and capable of working independently or as part of a coordinated team while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Primary Responsibilities Boom Truck & Crane Operations
- Safely operate 45-ton picker / boom truck
- Load and unload truck and trailer combinations
- Primary cargo includes small to medium rail equipment, with occasional tandem and heavy lifts
- Perform accurate rigging to secure loads prior to lifting
- Assist with setup and breakdown of lifting operations
Transportation & Field Work
- Transport cargo over highway and off-road routes, including regional and cross-Canada moves when required
- Safely position materials and equipment at varying heights and locations
- Coordinate lifts with site supervision, riggers, and dispatch
Inspections & Maintenance
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks, trailers, and lifting equipment
- Identify and report mechanical or safety issues promptly
- Maintain equipment in a safe, compliant, and operational condition
Safety & Communication
- Follow all company safety policies and regulatory requirements
- Maintain clear verbal and non-verbal communication during lifts and site operations
- Report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions immediately
- Represent IRT professionally when interacting with clients and site personnel
Job Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience operating similar crane or picker setups
- Journeyman ticket (required)
- Valid Class 1 Driver’s Licence with a clean 5-year commercial abstract
- Strong knowledge of rigging practices and heavy lifting procedures
- Mechanical aptitude related to lifting and transport equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to pass pre-employment and pre-access drug & alcohol testing
Assets (Nice to Have)
- Valid First Aid and H2S certification
- Experience in rail, industrial, or heavy equipment environments
