Position Summary

The Industrial Firefighter / Emergency Medical Responder provides emergency response, fire suppression, rescue services, medical standby coverage, hazard mitigation, and industrial safety support throughout Alberta and Western Canada.

This role requires individuals who can perform under pressure, work safely in demanding environments, and maintain exceptional standards of professionalism, teamwork, and physical fitness.

Both full-time and casual positions are available.

Key Responsibilities Emergency Response

  • Respond to industrial fires and emergency incidents
  • Perform structural and industrial fire suppression
  • Participate in wildland firefighting operations
  • Conduct scene size-up and hazard assessments
  • Assist with incident stabilization

Medical Standby

  • Provide emergency medical coverage at industrial worksites
  • Deliver patient care within your certification level
  • Complete medical documentation
  • Coordinate with EMS when required

Rescue Operations

  • Participate in confined space rescue
  • Assist with vehicle extrication
  • Support technical rescue operations
  • Safely operate rescue equipment

Fire Station & Equipment

  • Inspect apparatus and emergency equipment
  • Maintain PPE and firefighting equipment
  • Support inventory management
  • Complete operational documentation

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow USS Standard Operating Guidelines
  • Comply with Alberta OHS legislation
  • Follow client-specific safety procedures
  • Participate in training and safety meetings

Physical Requirements

Successful applicants must be capable of:

  • Wearing full PPE and SCBA for extended periods
  • Operating in extreme weather conditions
  • Performing under high-stress emergency situations
  • Lifting and carrying up to 45 kg (100 lbs.)
  • Climbing ladders and working at heights
  • Working in confined spaces and low-visibility environments
  • Performing physically demanding tasks while wearing approximately 22 kg (50 lbs.) of protective equipment

Medical clearance may be required before employment.

Minimum QualificationsFirefighter Applicants

  • NFPA 1001 Level I and/or II
  • NFPA 1072 or NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations
  • Current CPR Certification
  • ICS 100
  • Valid Alberta Driver's Licence
  • Standard First Aid, EMR, or higher medical certification

Medical Applicants

  • EMR, PCP, ACP, or equivalent certification
  • Current Alberta College of Paramedics registration
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Valid Driver's Licence

Required Safety Certifications

  • H₂S Alive
  • WHMIS
  • TDG
  • CSO (Common Safety Orientation)

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with any of the following will be given strong consideration:

  • Class 1, 2, or 3 Driver's Licence
  • Air Brake (Q) Endorsement
  • Pump Operator
  • Apparatus Driver Operator
  • Rope Rescue
  • Ice Rescue
  • Wildland Fire Training
  • Fire Officer Certifications
  • Fire Instructor Certifications
  • Industrial Emergency Response experience
  • Oil & Gas experience
  • Technical trade background
