Electronics Assembly Technician:

About Expert Geophysics

Expert Geophysics Limited manufactures specialized computer hardware and electronic systems used in advanced geophysical survey operations. Our equipment is designed for demanding field environments and requires a high level of precision, reliability, and workmanship. We conduct detailed electronic assembly in-house and are looking for an experienced technician to join our manufacturing team. We are seeking a seasoned Electronics Assembly Technician with strong hands-on experience in detailed electronic assembly, soldering, wire crimping, cable preparation, and interpreting electrical diagrams. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for detail, takes pride in high-quality workmanship, and is comfortable assembling, inspecting, and reworking small electronic components and hardware used in specialized geophysical instrumentation.

This role is well suited for someone with significant practical experience in electronics manufacturing, precision assembly, and production environments where quality and reliability are critical.

Job Type: This is a permanent full-time position for an existing opening.

Work Location: On-site: Newmarket, Ontario

Key Responsibilities:

The Electronics Assembly Technician will be responsible for assembling and preparing electronic components, sub-assemblies, cables, harnesses, and hardware according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and production standards.

  • Perform detailed micro-electronic assembly of components, circuit boards, wiring, connectors, and related hardware.
  • Carry out precision soldering, including through-hole and fine-pitch component work.
  • Strip, crimp, terminate, and assemble wires, cables, and harnesses.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and work instructions.
  • Assemble connectors, terminals, cable assemblies, and electronic modules to required specifications.
  • Inspect completed work for accuracy, workmanship, polarity, continuity, mechanical fit, and overall quality.
  • Perform rework, repair, and modification of electronic assemblies as required.
  • Use hand tools, soldering stations, crimping tools, heat guns, microscopes, multi-meters, and other electronic assembly equipment.
  • Maintain accurate production records, inspection results, and documentation as required.
  • Follow company quality procedures, safety practices, and electrostatic discharge control requirements.
  • Work closely with engineering and manufacturing to resolve assembly issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Required Qualifications

  • Significant hands-on experience in electronica assembly, electronics manufacturing, or a similar technical production role.
  • Strong soldering skills and experience working with small components.
  • Experience with wire preparation, wire crimping, cable harness assembly, and connector installation.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical diagrams, wiring schematics, assembly drawings, and technical instructions.
  • Skilled in the use of common hand tools and inspection equipment.
  • High attention to detail and ability to perform precise, repetitive work with consistent quality.
  • Ability to identify workmanship defects and correct assembly issues.
  • Good manual dexterity and comfort working with small parts and fine tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
  • Strong organizational skills and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience assembling electronic hardware used in scientific, industrial, aerospace, defense, geophysical, or instrumentation applications.
  • IPC certification or familiarity with IPC standards, such as IPC-A-610, IPC-J-STD-001, or IPC/WHMA-A-620.
  • Experience working under a microscope or magnification system.
  • Familiarity with ESD-safe handling practices.
  • Basic testing experience using multimeters or other electronic test equipment.
  • Experience working in a low-volume, high-reliability manufacturing environment.

Compensation

This position offers a salary range of $50,000 to $60,000 annually.
