Full job description

Position Overview

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects. As our estimator you will play a critical role by analyzing project requirements, developing detailed pricing strategies, identifying risks and opportunities, and collaborating with, Division Managers, Project Managers, Suppliers and Clients throughout the bidding process.

The Electrical Estimator will review drawings and specifications, perform quantity take-offs, solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations, prepare tender submissions and assist with proposal preparation. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting strict deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs when required.
  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates using estimating software and historical cost data.
  • Develop bid strategies that maximize competitiveness while maintaining profitability.
  • Analyze project risks, opportunities, assumptions, and exclusions.
  • Prepare tender summaries, bid review documents, and proposal requirements.
  • Coordinate pricing from suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate quotations for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Maintain organized records of all estimate documentation and supporting calculations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of material pricing, labour rates, and market conditions.
  • Participate in design-build and design-assist projects by providing budget pricing and constructability input.
  • Assist with value engineering initiatives and alternative pricing solutions.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Electrician certification with minimum 3–5 years’ experience in the electrical construction industry.
  • 1-2 years of electrical estimating experience
  • Experience estimating commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience with design-build and design-assist projects is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, lighting, controls, fire alarm, communications, security, and specialty systems.
  • Understanding of labour productivity, installation methods, and construction sequencing.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with construction scheduling and project delivery methods.
  • Experience using estimating software such as Accubid.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, or other construction software is considered an asset.
