Heavy Equipment Operator
(Haul Truck, Dozer, Grader, Excavator, Shovel, Loader)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off, 12-hour shifts

  • Employee bus transportation is available from Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, Dawson Creek, and Mackenzie

  • Employee bus transportation is available from Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd

Heavy Equipment Operators are integral to the safe, efficient, and productive operation at Conuma’s mine sites. We are looking for individuals who have:

  • 2–5 years’ experience operating equipment in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Physical capability to perform the requirements of the role safely and effectively, including climbing ladders to equipment, working at heights, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness and ability to work 12-hour day and night shifts on a 7x7 rotation.
  • Ability to remain focused and detail-oriented in all weather conditions and throughout all shift hours.
  • Effective communication skills in English, with the ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • A strong personal commitment to safety.
  • Demonstrated reliability and dependability, supported by a strong attendance record.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • First Aid/Mine Rescue Training considered an asset.

As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will:

  • Operate assigned equipment safely, efficiently, and in accordance with site procedures.
  • Complete pre-trip inspections, FLHAs, and other reports as required.
  • Adhere to all applicable policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Identify and report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using 2-way radios.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to safely achieve production targets.

Depending on operational requirements, your skills and experience, you may be assigned to operate one or more of the following types of equipment:

Haul Truck

  • Experience operating haul trucks such as Komatsu 830E, HD1500, Caterpillar 785C, 789C, 793F, or similar, in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Safely operate rigid-frame haul trucks to transport overburden, waste rock, and coal.

Dozer

  • Experience operating dozers such as Caterpillar D10T, D10T2, D11T, Komatsu D475, or similar, in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Safely operate tracked dozers to manage dumps, move coal, and complete other earthmoving tasks.

Grader

  • Experience operating graders such as Caterpillar 16H, 16M, 18M, 24M, or similar, in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Safely operate graders to level and maintain mine haul roads.

Excavator

  • Experience operating excavators such as Caterpillar 385, 395, 390FL, 6015B, Hitachi 870, 890, or similar, in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Safely operate excavators to clean and move coal, load trucks, and manage dig areas.

Shovel

  • Experience operating hydraulic shovels such as Komatsu PC2000, PC4000, PC7000, Hitachi EX3600, EX5500, EX5600, EX8000, or similar, in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Safely operate hydraulic shovels to load haul trucks with coal and waste material.

Loader

  • Experience operating loaders such as Caterpillar 988K, 992G, 994H, Letourneau 1350, or similar, in an open-pit mining environment.
  • Safely operate loaders to move material, load haul trucks, manage stockpiles, and support surface coal mining operations

Wages and Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: From $41.50 to $47, based on experience and qualifications
  • Bonus Pay: Up to $25,000* extra annually through monthly and quarterly bonuses
