Job Overview

As an Elementary Drama Teacher, you will inspire a lifelong love for the performing arts in students from Grade 1 to Grade 6. You will design and deliver an engaging, curriculum-aligned drama program that builds confidence, collaboration, and creative expression. Your role spans dynamic classroom instruction to directing vibrant, school-wide theatrical productions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, age-appropriate drama lessons that foster a passion for the arts and are tailored to diverse learning styles.
  • Direct and coordinate school performances, assemblies, and annual drama productions, including managing staging, casting, and rehearsals.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment where students feel confident exploring public speaking, improvisation, and character work.
  • Evaluate student progress, maintain accurate academic records, and provide constructive, encouraging feedback to students and parents through report cards and interviews.
  • Partner with the homeroom teachers and school leadership to integrate cross-curricular initiatives and support school events.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Education or an equivalent teaching degree.
  • Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification in good standing is highly preferred.
  • Specialized degree in Fine Arts/Drama is an asset.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience teaching drama or performing arts, preferably within an elementary or independent school setting.
  • Teaching experience at the primary or junior level, including experience in delivering curriculum using modern technology tools as outlined within the posting.
  • Proven experience directing, producing, or organizing children’s theater productions or school concerts.
  • Exceptional communication, organization, and classroom management skills, with an enthusiastic and energetic teaching philosophy.
  • A caring and passionate perspective on teaching.
