Our school provides a nurturing, structured, and academically rich environment where children are encouraged to develop independence, confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. We are a school with small class sizes, allowing teachers to build meaningful relationships with students and provide individualized attention.

If you are an educator who values Montessori philosophy, child-centered learning, individualized instruction, and a close-knit school community, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role

  • Prepare and maintain an inviting, organized, safe, and developmentally appropriate classroom.
  • Present Montessori materials and provide hands-on, experiential learning opportunities.
  • Observe each child and support their individual developmental, social, emotional, and academic needs.
  • Foster independence, concentration, confidence, grace and courtesy, and positive social interactions.
  • Maintain accurate observations, documentation, and developmental records.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with parents and families.

Independent School – Kindergarten & Grade 1

  • Teach and support a small group of approximately 10–12 students in a Montessori-inspired academic program.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, individualized, and small-group lessons.
  • Support student progress in literacy, numeracy, science, social studies, and cultural studies.
  • Adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and abilities.
  • Encourage independence, responsibility, critical thinking, and self-directed learning.
  • Maintain student records, assessments, portfolios, and progress reports.
  • Support a positive multi-age classroom community.
  • Ensure instructional practices align with BC Curriculum and Independent Schools Branch requirements.

General Responsibilities

  • Create a warm, respectful, inclusive, and positive classroom environment.
  • Promote students' independence, confidence, social development, and emotional well-being.
  • Establish consistent and supportive classroom routines and expectations.
  • Communicate openly and professionally with parents and guardians.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute positively to the school community.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, training, and school activities.
  • Follow school policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and support inspection readiness.
  • Contribute ideas and initiatives that support continued school growth and program quality.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • ECE Certification recognized in British Columbia.
  • Independent School Certification appropriate for teaching Kindergarten/Grade 1.
  • Experience working with young children in a classroom or Montessori environment.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
  • A genuine passion for child-centered education and supporting the whole child.

Strongly preferred:

  • Montessori training or certification.
  • Experience in a Montessori or multi-age classroom.
  • Experience teaching Kindergarten and/or Grade 1.
  • Knowledge of the BC Curriculum.
  • Familiarity with Independent Schools Branch requirements and documentation.
