Position Summary:
The Communications Specialist acts as a brand champion for HomeEd in facilitating effective communication internally and externally. The role ensures HomeEd’s corporate communications and events are professional, timely, and engaging, while contributing to corporate projects and coordinating with various stakeholders to advance HomeEd’s goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Corporate Communications
- Coordinate the development and execution of HomeEd’s marketing, communications and community engagement plans.
- Maintain the consistent use of brand content and collateral, sourcing and enhancing templates and content as appropriate.
- Design, develop and distribute professional and persuasive communications to HomeEd staff, customers, stakeholders, and media as required.
- Write professional and persuasive proposals, presentations, briefs, memos, media releases, and reports as requested.
- Actively manage HomeEd’s brand presence and content across HomeEd’s website, traditional and social media platforms.
- Develop and manage awareness and advertising campaigns to deliver on desired outcomes.
- Monitor media platforms for information about, or relevant to HomeEd and coordinate and/or deliver responses as appropriate.
- Problem-solve, streamline, and/or educate staff and stakeholders on communication protocols and processes as required.
Event Management
- Champion and/or support the planning and execution of events and initiatives to drive resident, staff, and stakeholder engagement.
- Engage with residents and stakeholders at events, addressing inquiries and strengthening HomeEd’s reputation in the community.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate and connect with various stakeholders, understanding their needs and educating them on HomeEd’s activities and value.
- Liaise with social agencies, understanding, coordinating and communicating supportive offerings for HomeEd residents while supporting effective partnerships.
- Develop, execute, manage, and track HomeEd’s public relations campaigns.
- Occasionally provide secondary coverage to corporate and operational administration.
Special Projects & Initiatives
- Conduct internal and external research and analysis as required.
- Collaborate with external consultants on diverse corporate initiatives.
- Contribute to the execution of departmental initiatives, cross-functional projects, and change management efforts.
- Execute confidential or sensitive assignments as required.
Corporate Standards & Expectations
- Consistently complies with all company policies, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements relevant to the role.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Prioritizes the safety of self and all employees by following HomeEd’s safety protocols and policies. This duty requires a proactive approach to completing field-level or positional-level hazard assessments, as well as actively participating in improving the overall safety culture of HomeEd.
Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary Degree or Credential in Communications, Business, Administration, or another relevant major.
- Must possess 3+ years of professional experience with Corporate Communications, Customer Service, and/or Stakeholder Engagement.
- Experience in the housing sector and/or a non-profit environment is an asset.
- Experience with WordPress preferred.
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office suite, and video conferencing products.
- Proficiency with social media content development and platform management.
- Strong written and oral fluency in the English language.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to possess sufficient physical ability and mobility to walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to lift, carry, push and/ or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned equipment; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
- Specifically, the employee must be able to bear a weight of 50 lbs.
- In order to perform the duties of this position, the employee will need to be able to see in the normal visual range, with or without correction, and to hear in the normal audio range, with or without correction.
Work Environment:
- This is a work on-site position.
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Part of your job will be to work with people in high-risk situations and the vulnerable sector, which requires a criminal record check.
- The employee must be organized. The employee’s workspace is to be kept in a state of cleanliness that would represent the standard required by HomeEd.
- The job requires some travel. As such, the position should have regular access to a reliable vehicle and must possess a driver's license valid in the Province of Alberta and appropriate vehicle insurance as per HomeEd policies.
- Due to the nature of the position, the employee should be available to respond to any situation during work hours.
- Evening and weekend availability may be required.
