Job Summary

Superior Asphalt Paving is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and experienced Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for asphalt paving, concrete, excavation, and snow management projects. You will analyze project specifications, conduct site visits, prepare detailed cost estimates, and collaborate with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to develop comprehensive proposals. The successful candidate is organized, technically proficient, and able to manage multiple projects while building strong client relationships. As a key member of our team, you will play an important role in securing new projects, maintaining profitability, and contributing to the continued growth and success of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and competitive estimates and quotations for commercial and residential asphalt, concrete, excavation, and snow management projects.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, tender documents, and site conditions to develop detailed cost estimates using estimating software, including Bluebeam and HeavyBid.
  • Conduct site visits and property measurements to evaluate project requirements.
  • Analyze labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs while obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive bid proposals and tender packages that accurately reflect project scope and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with project managers, operations staff, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to develop estimates, negotiate pricing, and secure contracts.
  • Manage multiple estimating projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Assist in developing bid strategies, evaluating project risks, and identifying opportunities to improve competitiveness and profitability.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by communicating project scope, pricing, and proposal details, and following up on submitted quotations.
  • Maintain organized estimating records, proposals, bid documentation, and project files.
  • Attend site meetings, pre-bid meetings, and project walkthroughs as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience in construction estimating is preferred, particularly within the commercial asphalt, concrete, excavation, or civil construction industry. Experience with municipal projects and property management clients is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, industry standards, pricing strategies, and cost analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, including Bluebeam and HeavyBid, as well as Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word).
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills with the ability to build positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence with the ability to travel to project sites as required.
