Description

Are you passionate about working with youth? If so, then this amazing opportunity is for you. We are seeking an experienced Child and Youth Care professional to work as a fly-in / fly-out Child and Youth Care Practitioner in Northern Quebec.

Duties

  • Apply intervention plans for clients.
  • Provide positive reinforcement for client behaviour.
  • Organize and coordinate activities for the clients.
  • Observe, analyze, and record client behaviours.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Comply with safety and prevention measures.
  • Supervise clients inside and outside the centre, including during any outings the clients attend.
  • Implementing emergency protocols, crisis interventions and non-violent physical interventions as needed.
  • Teach life skills to clients.

Your Qualifications & Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with children and youth within a similar environment.
  • Post-secondary education in child and youth care or special care counselling, or a bachelor’s degree in psychoeducation, psychology, criminology, social work, or another relevant degree or diploma.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
  • English fluency is required, and knowledge of French or Inuktitut would be a strong asset.
  • Able to adapt and work well with clients from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Sensitive and understanding of the needs of others.
  • Mature with a strong positive attitude.
  • Able to collaborate well within a team.
  • Ability to work independently; a self-starter.
  • Resilience, independence, and confidence.
  • Working understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Successful candidates are responsible for providing a recent clear criminal reference check, vulnerable sector screening, tuberculosis skin test, up-to-date immunization record, and a clear driver’s abstract.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Pay: $42.00 per hour

  • Shifts in the north are 6-8 weeks and can be up to 12 weeks. There is no set rotation of shifts. Is this something you would be comfortable with?
