About Vanguard Air Care

Established in 2003, Vanguard Air Care has become a trusted provider in the delivery of transport medicine. We provide 24-hour air ambulance service from our locations in Norway House, Thompson, Island Lake and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our skilled medical staff care for patients with the ease and compassion of those truly dedicated to their mission. As well, our flight crews are supported around the clock by our Flight Dispatch Center whose focus on customer care ensures smooth, safe and efficient patient transfers.

About the Role

Accountable to the Director of Medevac Services, the Clinical Operations Supervisor will provide hands-on training and facilitate the learning of new concepts and current practices in Manitoba. This role ensures consistent and continuous skill-building among our medical team while supporting the attainment of the highest quality and safety standards and operational effectiveness. This position also provides on-call, after-hours telephone support to Medevac crews on a rotational basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training & Education: Utilizing our high-definition sim-lab, provide hands-on training and facilitate the learning of new concepts and current practices to ensure continuous skill-building among the medical team.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance: Implement and manage regulatory compliance; assess, develop, and manage a formal Continuous Quality Assurance/Improvement program.
  • Performance Management: Utilize advanced skills to manage performance and mentor medical professionals at all levels.
  • Project Management: Lead clinical education initiatives and projects from inception to execution.
  • On-Call Support: Participate in a rotational schedule to provide after-hours telephone support to active Medevac crews.
  • Flight Coverage: Ability to cover or assist a single medical crew member on a flight if required.

Required Experience & Education:

· Education: Graduate of an accredited or approved Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) program. Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) education is preferred.

Professional Experience: Minimum of five years of professional experience providing care to stable, unstable, and critically ill patients in an aeromedical environment.

· Certifications & Registration: Current Instructor Certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Basic Life Support (BLS) are essential. Must be currently registered, or eligible for registration, as a member in good standing with the College of Paramedics of Manitoba as either a Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) or Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP).

· High-Fidelity Simulation: Demonstrated current or previous operational experience using high-fidelity simulation systems within a medical or healthcare environment.

· Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of the Manitoba Health EMS Act and Regulations and the Air Medical Response System Regulation, with an understanding of the regulatory requirements governing emergency medical services and aeromedical operations.

· Inter-Agency Coordination & Collaboration: Demonstrated experience building and maintaining positive working relationships and collaborating effectively with hospitals, nursing stations, EMS flight and ground services, various levels of government, and northern and remote communities.

Core Competencies:

  • Instructional Design and Delivery: Ability to design lesson plans, utilize simulation technology, create remediation plans based on QA findings and adapt teaching methodologies
  • Patient Centered Approach: Have a good understanding of patient centered approach, which prioritizes a patient’s unique needs, values and preferences.
  • Critical Care Knowledge: Advanced understanding of flight physiology, critical care transport, and aeromedical patient stabilization.
  • Assessment & Evaluation: Up-to-date knowledge of current emergency medical practices, resuscitation protocols, and field diagnostics
  • Mentorship and Coaching: Fostering critical thinking, emotional resilience, and professional socialization. Ability to discuss clinical performance with field staff in a non-punitive, educational, and collaborative manner
  • Documentation Review: Auditing electronic Patient Care Records (ePCR) to verify the completeness and accuracy of patient assessments and treatments.
  • Protocol & Guideline Mastery: In-depth knowledge of pre-hospital care protocols, advanced life support (ALS) standing orders, and pharmacology.
  • Clinical Judgement: The ability to retrospectively evaluate whether a paramedic's treatment plan matched patient presentation and acceptable medical standards.
  • Policy Development: Assist the Director of Medevac Services in updating policies, procedures, and clinical directives based on audit findings and emerging best practices.
  • Investigation & Reporting: Assist the Director of Medevac services in conducting objective investigations into adverse events or patient complaints, and assisting in executing corrective action plans
  • Time management: Prioritizing competing projects and allocating resources efficiently. Ability to multi-task is essential when required.
  • Accountability: Holding self and staff members responsible for meeting company standards and expectations.
  • Active Listening: Taking the time to understand team concerns and non-verbal cues
