Job description:

The Assistant Controller position is part of the Vercity Canada corporate team. The corporate team is responsible for the financial management of Vercity Social Infrastructure (Canada). This position will support to the finance function in the effective delivery of the obligations and reporting requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage core accounting functions, including billings, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and equity distributions;
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet schedules and journal entries;
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and quarterly financial statements in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Manage payroll and benefit administration including necessary filings and remittances;
  • Reconcile foreign currency transactions and accounts;
  • Prepare monthly GST/QST filings and remittances;
  • Prepare month end reports including variance analysis and commentary for management;
  • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including tracking revenues and costs and reporting against approved budgets;
  • Communicate and work with various internal & external contacts;
  • Review MSA contracts to understand and monitor financial and commercial obligations;
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with financial controls;
  • Support the year-end audit, including preparation of annual financial statements, audit working papers, and coordination with external auditors;
  • Supervise junior accounting staff, foster strong performance and collaboration within the team;
  • Participate in the ongoing development of the finance function, team, and systems.

Required:

  • Located in Toronto, ON or Victoria, BC
  • CPA designation (or near-completion);
  • 3-5 years of progressive intermediate full cycle accounting experience, with demonstrated career progression and increasing responsibility;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Proven ability to lead accounting processes, prioritize competing deliverables and meet tight deadlines
  • High attention to detail with strong aptitude for critical thinking and problem solving
