Child & Youth Group Home Support Worker for At-Risk/Complex Needs Youth
Location: Alberta (multiple communities)
Employment Type: ***FULL TIME ONLY***
Hiring Night Staff for Night Shifts and Day Time Day Staff for Day Shifts
Day time shifts: 10:00 a.m-10:00 p.m.
Night time shift: 10:00 p.m -10:00 p.m.
About Nitanis Group Home
Nitanis Group Home is an Indigenous-owned, Alberta-licensed group home providing culturally grounded, holistic care for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children and youth. Guided by the Medicine Wheel and the Seven Sacred Teachings, we nurture the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of every child and youth in our care.
Indigenous Hiring Preference

Competency-Based Hiring
**All new hires are required to complete 45 hours of competency-based training-including cultural programming, trauma-informed care, and life skill within the first three months of employment.**
Key Responsibilities
* Provide daily care, supervision, and strengths-based support in a home-like setting to At-Rick youth
* Facilitate cultural programming: smudging ceremonies, talking circles, drumming, beading, storytelling
* Support individualized care plans: meals, homework, appointments, and life-skills coaching
* Foster trusting relationships through empathy, respect, and genuine connection
* Collaborate with Elders, therapists, caseworkers, and community partners to ensure holistic support
* Maintain clear, timely documentation in accordance with licensing and CAC standards
* Participate in team meetings, professional development, and cultural gatherings
Qualifications & Documentation
* **Strong preference for applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit**
* Diploma or degree in Child & Youth Care, Social Services, Indigenous Studies, or enrollment in a related program; OR minimum two years’ related experience
* Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, languages, and protocols
* Ability to integrate traditional teachings and land-based activities into daily programming
* Excellent communication, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution skills
* Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable transportation
* Standard First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
**Required at the time of hire (please have these ready):**
* Resume outlining qualifications, work, and volunteer experience
* Copies of degrees, diplomas, or proof of enrollment, as applicable
* At least two signed and dated references (or declaration that references have been checked)
* Names and phone numbers for emergency contacts
* Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (must be current within 6 months; renews every 3 years)
* Signed declaration of confidentiality (to be completed at hire)
* Signed terms of employment/involvement (to be completed at hire)
* Any other screening/checks required by law
If your criminal record check is not marked “clear,” you may still be considered based on a documented risk assessment. All information is kept confidential.
