Join our team at the Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo and grow your experience at one of the most unique sites in Calgary! Our Retail Service team is seeking a permanent part-time Retail Stockroom Coordinator (30 hours per week) to support the streamline processing, organization, and tracking of the Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo inventory.
The Retail Stockroom Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operations of all retail venues, including receiving product deliveries that are then organized and maintained in storage areas as well as completing data entry and physical transfer of product between venues. The Retail Stockroom Coordinator will assist with month-end reporting and physical inventory tracking with the Manager, Retail Operations. They will lead and assist staff on the Retail Shop floor and in the stockroom, conduct spot inventory counts, direct product merchandising and flow of freight, and complete other tasks as required.

What you will do:
- Count and receive retail deliveries and proactively coordinate Retail team members for timely processing of stock receipt and merchandising
- Adapting to shifting priorities and working well under pressure, complete tasks to optimize an efficient flow of freight while maintaining a positive guest experience and positive work environment
- Execute accurate data entry including purchase orders, invoices, vendor and product details, and transfers working with Accounting and vendors to ensure inventory and billing accuracy.
- Perform product transfers between shops, assisting with supply orders and inter-departmental inventory transfers
- Perform inventory audits, assisting with month end inventory reconciliation and reporting, and year end physical inventory
- Organize and maintain storage areas to ensure inventory accuracy and efficiency of product flow
- Contribute as an equal member of the Retail Service team by assisting with opening task lists and huddles, supporting the sales floor during peak times through guest engagement, till transactions, and assist with store re-stocking, merchandising and cleaning
- Attend and participate in regular staff meetings, and share the responsibility of delivering onboarding, training and coaching of new and existing staff to ensure consistent and timely communication of information.
- Regularly observe and assess staff performance providing praise and positive feedback along with redirection/coaching in the moment as needed, and collaborate with the Retail Leadership team on opportunities for performance improvement.
- Support and adhere to all company policies and procedures, model positive behaviors for the team and coach others as needed.
- Complies with the Zoo’s health and safety program and assists with health and safety inspections
- Be professional when communicating with all guests, vendors, external and internal partners at all time.
What you will bring:
- At least two years of retail sales experience with a focus on customer service and guest relations is required
- At least two years of experience in Inventory control with an emphasis on accurate and consistent data entry is required
- A valid Driver’s License is required
- Post-secondary degree or diploma is an asset.
- Must be computer literate, and capable of utilizing a multitude of programs with a high level of efficiency and accuracy
- Excellent detail orientation for data entry.
- Ability to communicate accurately and effectively, both written and verbal
Working Conditions:
- Working in Gift Shops, warehouse, stockroom and outdoors, including extreme cold and hot conditions
- Routine bending, squatting, walking, and standing
- Capable of lifting and moving up to 50 lb boxes
- Driving golf carts and trucks across grounds
- Shedule will be 30+ hours/week and shifts can include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
