About us:

Binkadi Community Services (BCS) is hiring Casual Specialized Child and Youth Workers. BCS supports children and youth with complex care needs in staffed community-based homes. Some supported individuals display challenging behaviours, and our team members are expected to respond calmly, and in line with the individual's care plan. BCS is committed to empowering children and youth through safe, supportive, trauma-informed care.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with individuals towards their goals and transition planning
  • Implementation of the children & youth’s individual care plans
  • Supporting children and youth with developing skills to manage their emotional, social, and development needs; both in the home and in community settings
  • Using de-escalation techniques to support during challenging situations
  • Providing a safe, secure home environment, including household management and meal preparation
  • Working with the child and youth’s community teams
  • Transporting to and from appointments and activities
  • Maintaining health, safety, and professional standards at all times
  • Medication administration

Experience and Education:

  • Experience working with individuals with significant mental-health challenges, high-risk behaviours, and/or trauma, preferred
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Recent graduates with a practicum in a residential or community setting are encouraged to apply.
  • Training in ASIST, Mandt, Non-Violent Communication, and/or Behaviour Support, are assets.

The position:

BCS is hiring for casual positions. Individuals are expected to be available to work a variety of shifts to cover staff illness, leaves of absence, vacations, etc. in programs that operate 24/7. Preference will be given to candidates who are available for evening, weekend, and awake overnight shifts. Minimum of four shifts per month required.

Casual positions may lead to regular permanent opportunities.

All candidates must pass MCFD screening, which includes a Vulnerable Sector check and Prior Contact Check.

Candidates must have a valid BC Driver’s license.

An additional 8.4% will be paid in lieu of vacation and statutory holiday pay.

Pay rate range reflects variety of shifts casuals will work, as overnight rates differ from daytime rates.

Overnight Rates: starts at $22.94

Regular Rate: starts at $27.54
