Full job description

Job Title: Child and Youth Care Worker

Location: Leduc, Alberta

Reports To: Team Lead

Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child and Youth Care Worker to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing care, support, and supervision to children within our program. Your primary responsibility will be to help meet the basic needs of the children, build meaningful relationships, and oversee daily activities in a structured and safe environment.

As a Child and Youth Care Worker, you will support youth in achieving personal goals, assist in life skills development, and work closely with other staff and management to deliver high-quality, client-centered services.

Major Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Complete accurate and timely written documentation including logbook entries, contact notes, incident reports, and medical binder updates.
  • Coordinate service plans and collaborate with youth, staff, and management to ensure effective service delivery.

Client Support

  • Provide client-centered, strength-based services in alignment with our policies.
  • Build collaborative and supportive relationships with youth, serving as a positive role model.
  • Model life skills, social skills, communication skills, and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Assist youth in achieving their personal goals as outlined in their individual goal plans.
  • Attend appointments and support youth in navigating their healthcare, educational, and social needs.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for both staff and youth.
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the unit and property.
  • Educate youth on house rules and expectations, ensuring compliance and promoting personal responsibility.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and program policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience working with children, particularly those with diverse needs, including individuals with disabilities or medically fragile youth, and especially those with high behavioral needs.
  • Degree or diploma in Child and Youth Care, Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of child development and effective strategies for supporting children with a variety of learning and behavioral challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement individualized care plans that promote positive outcomes for children with diverse needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to create tailored solutions to address challenges and support child development.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time-management skills to effectively manage a range of responsibilities while providing high-quality care.
  • Flexible and open to change, with the ability to adapt to evolving program needs.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Medication Administration certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Must be able to provide a clear Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check.
  • Experience working with high-risk youth.
  • *Preference to person with Indigenous background

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Suicide Intervention and Crisis Intervention Prevention.
  • Experience in residential programs and working with youth in care.
  • Advanced training in behavior management and therapeutic techniques.
  • Knowledge of SMART Goals and experience in writing monthly reports.
