Full job description
We are a small, family-run team looking for a dependable, energetic, and compassionate individual to join our support team. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys staying active, values meaningful relationships, and wants to be part of a close-knit group working together to support a young adult in living a full and engaging life.
About the Role
You will be providing one-on-one support to a young adult male with autism in a program focused on building independence, confidence, and everyday life skills. Rather than a traditional workplace setting, most days are spent out in the community exploring interests, staying active, and creating positive experiences together.
This role blends mentorship, encouragement, and practical support. The goal is not simply to assist with daily activities, but to help foster growth, independence, and a strong sense of well-being.
Because the days are often active, this role is well suited to someone who enjoys movement and spending time outdoors. Activities may include heading to the pool, getting on the court for tennis or basketball, hiking local trails, or kayaking when the weather allows. During the winter months this could mean snowshoeing, while other days might involve a workout, creative projects like arts and crafts, or simply relaxing with a movie or video game. Variety is part of what makes this role enjoyable.
What We Offer
We provide a thoughtful and individualized training process designed specifically for this role so you feel prepared and supported from the start. You will also receive ongoing guidance from experienced support professionals and a BCBA.
Because we are a small team, collaboration and communication are important. We are looking for someone who wants to be part of a supportive environment where relationships and consistency matter.
Schedule
- One weekend day will be needed
- Typical shifts are 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM or 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- 1–2 overnight shifts per month
- Reliable transportation to the North Shore is required
Qualifications
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and diverse behaviours
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to complete a background and police security check
- Availability for at least one weekend day and occasional evenings or overnight shifts
- Willingness to commit to the position for a minimum of one year
Who You Are
You are reliable, active, patient, and genuinely interested in helping someone grow and succeed. You value building trust and connection, and you enjoy work that keeps you engaged and moving throughout the day.
If you are looking for a role that is meaningful, active, and relationship-driven — and want to be part of a supportive family team — we would love to hear from you.
