  • Maintain the corporate health & safety training matrix by coordinating employee orientations, mandatory training, certifications, and renewal requirements.
  • Conduct scheduled site inspections and audits to identify hazards, verify legislative compliance, and monitor corrective actions through to completion.
  • Support project start-ups by preparing required safety documentation, including Notices of Project, Form 1000 registrations, site safety binders, and project-specific safety plans.
  • Coordinate subcontractor health & safety prequalification, including WSIB clearance certificates, insurance documentation, training records, and contractor compliance platforms such as ISNetworld and Avetta.
  • Assist with COR® certification activities, internal audits, corrective action tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) program, including meeting scheduling, agendas, minutes, postings, and follow-up on recommendations.
  • Support incident reporting and investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, regulatory notifications, WSIB documentation, and safety communications.
  • Compile and analyze health & safety performance metrics, including inspections, incidents, near misses, and hazard reports, and prepare regular reports for management.
  • Support MLITSD inspections and regulatory compliance by assisting with documentation, responses to orders, and legislative requirements.
  • Promote a positive health & safety culture by providing guidance, resources, and ongoing support to project teams, supervisors, and employees.
  • Stay informed of legislative changes, industry best practices, and emerging safety trends to continuously improve company programs and procedures.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an occupational health & safety role, preferably within the construction industry.
  • College diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
  • NCSO designation (or actively working toward completion); CRSP or CHSC designation considered an asset.

  • Solid understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, O. Reg. 213/91 – Construction Projects, and applicable health & safety legislation.
  • Working knowledge of WSIB claims management, return-to-work processes, and incident reporting requirements.
  • Experience supporting COR® certification, contractor prequalification systems (ISNetworld, Avetta), or health & safety management software is considered an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's Licence and reliable vehicle with the ability to travel regularly to project sites.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with Procore, SafetyLoop, or similar software is considered an asset.

Join the VanMar team and help build a culture where safety comes first. If you are passionate about protecting people, supporting project teams, and continuously improving health & safety performance, we'd love to hear from you.
