About the Clients:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for both parents living in their family home in Hamilton. Mom has Alzheimer's disease that is progressing, requiring full support with daily activities. She uses a walker indoors (though sometimes forgets) and a wheelchair for outings. Her mobility on stairs is currently manageable with supervision, but she needs close monitoring for safety. She has some spatial perception challenges, particularly when sitting on the toilet, and requires reassurance and guidance. Mom needs full assistance with toileting, including reminders to go and help with hygiene. She no longer initiates personal care independently and needs someone to engage her in meaningful activities rather than just watching TV. She responds well to music, simple tasks like sweeping or food prep, and patient redirection when anxious. She's warm and loving, though she no longer uses family members' names.

Dad is also experiencing cognitive decline with significant memory loss and lack of focus. He needs prompting and reminders for basic self-care like showering, getting dressed, and taking medications (managed via blister packs). He serves as Mom's primary caregiver but struggles to remember routines and often misses important care tasks. He benefits greatly from having support in the home and respite from caregiving responsibilities. Both parents are pleasant, non-aggressive individuals who respond well to patience and gentle guidance.

Responsibilities:

• Provide full personal care support including bathing assistance, toileting support, and hygiene reminders • Prepare and serve nutritious meals (groceries and meal components provided); ensure both parents eat properly including fruits and vegetables • Administer medications from pre-filled blister packs at scheduled times • Assist with mobility support using walker and wheelchair as needed; provide supervision on stairs • Engage both parents in meaningful activities and companionship to reduce TV time • Light housekeeping including tidying, laundry, and maintaining a clean environment • Monitor safety and provide cognitive support through gentle redirection and reassurance • Communicate clearly with family about daily observations and any concerns • Occasionally provide transportation for appointments or errands

What We're Looking For:

• Extensive experience with Alzheimer's and dementia care • Patient, calm demeanor with ability to provide emotional reassurance • Strong skills in personal care including toileting and bathing assistance • Ability to engage clients in activities and provide meaningful companionship • Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative without constant direction • Excellent communication skills with family members • Comfortable working independently while following established routines • English speaking • Valid driver's license for occasional transportation needs

Schedule:

Daily visits most days of the week. Specific days and times to be discussed, with consistency being essential for both parents' comfort and routine.

CAD$25.00/hr

CAD$225.00/week
