Night Dispatch Supervisor

Slingshot Transportation, Inc. is expanding again! We have some exciting new opportunities for a Night Dispatch Supervisor to join our operations team at the Milton ON terminal.

Schedule: Continental shift requiring successful candidate to work every other weekend

Hours of Work: 21:00 to 07:00, 40 hours per week and paid OT.

Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000 depending on experience

The focus of this role is to provide leadership to yard staff and drivers while overseeing dispatch operations at night.

Position Purpose

1. Provide direction, day-to-day responsibilities of the drivers, shunters, coordinators, and Slingshot drivers. Report performance issues

2. Night Dispatch Supervisor is responsible to ensure tasks are completed as per procedures as well as to perform the tasks when resources are not available.

3. Ensure proper use of all equipment and human resources in the yard including shunters, spotters, and gatekeeper.

4. Accurately and rapidly resolve issues to help mitigate delays

5. Ensure accurate reporting of all incidents that occur in the yards

6. Identifying performance concerns of all drivers, shunters, coordinators, or gatekeepers and report to Management

7. Support Dispatch after-hours.

8. Monitoring the yards for any safety concerns and addressing them with Management for resolution

9. Oversee the management of yard capacity for Slingshot equipment and inbound / outbound deliveries

Qualifications:

Knowledge:

· Working knowledge in the transportation industry.

· Working knowledge of equipment including tractors and trailers

· Working knowledge of dispatch operations

· Understanding of progressive discipline process

Skills and Abilities:

· Ability to properly supervise direct reports by assigning work, ensuring direct reports are working efficiently and effectively as well as identifying the need for training or progressive discipline and reporting details to Management.

· Comfortable working with minimal supervision

· Ability to identify multi-task, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

· Ability to provide corrective discipline while maintaining a positive working environment

· Comfortable in a setting which includes office staff, associates and drivers

· Ability to listen, speak and communicate effectively, often in some state of distress.

· Ability to work in a team environment in high pressure situations

· Strong written and oral communication skills are essential

Other Requirements:

· Minimum 2 years related experience within the transportation industry

· Minimum 2 years supervisor experience within the transportation industry

· Must have reliable vehicle and valid Ontario driver’s license

· Must be able to work in fast-paced, multi-dimensional and highly demanding office environment
