Purchaser

World Class Contracting Ltd. is currently recruiting a full-time Purchaser to join our team.

Compensation: $36.00-$42.00 per hour, dependent on industry experience
Schedule: 36-44 hours per week

The Purchaser plays a key role in supporting our Project Managers, Foremen, office staff, and field crews through effective purchasing, vendor coordination, material management, equipment and tool management, and inventory control. This position is ideal for an organized, detail-oriented professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and coordinating with multiple stakeholders to keep projects running smoothly.

As a Purchaser, you will be responsible for sourcing, pricing, and procuring materials, tools, equipment, and supplies commonly used within the mechanical construction industry. You will help ensure materials are available when needed, purchasing records remain accurate, and company resources are properly tracked, maintained, and accounted for.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You build positive relationships with Project Managers, Foremen, vendors, suppliers, and internal teams while maintaining accuracy, accountability, and professionalism throughout the purchasing process.

You are proactive in identifying and resolving procurement, inventory, delivery, and vendor-related issues before they impact project performance. Above all, you are committed to conducting purchasing activities in a manner that reflects World Class Contracting's Core Values, safety standards, company policies, and commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source, price, and procure materials, tools, equipment, rentals, and supplies required for ongoing projects, ensuring availability, competitive pricing, quality standards, and timely delivery.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Foremen to coordinate material requirements, purchase orders, shipments, pickups, backorders, and vendor communications.
  • Obtain, compare, and evaluate vendor quotations to support cost-effective purchasing decisions within company approval guidelines.
  • Manage and maintain purchase orders, material lists, order tracking, shipping documentation, and inventory records to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Coordinate the organization, replenishment, and control of C-CAN/seacan inventory and related shop stock.
  • Track and maintain company tools, equipment, units, and shop resources, ensuring assets are available, properly assigned, maintained, and accounted for.
  • Maintain accurate records for materials and equipment ordered, received, transferred, returned, and allocated to projects, while assisting with invoice verification and discrepancy resolution.
  • Support the preparation, organization, tracking, and updating of shop drawings and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) documentation as required.
  • Monitor inventory levels, purchasing priorities, and backorders to ensure project schedules and operational requirements are met.
  • Participate in regular purchasing and inventory review meetings, providing updates on procurement activities, stock levels, equipment availability, and vendor performance.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers and vendors while ensuring procurement activities align with company policies, project requirements, budgets, and company values.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience sourcing, pricing, and purchasing materials, equipment, and supplies within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, procurement processes, inventory management, and vendor relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate pricing, evaluate supplier options, and make cost-conscious purchasing decisions while maintaining quality and project requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing quotes, purchase orders, invoices, delivery documentation, inventory records, and project allocations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, project teams, and management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Drive, PDF management/conversion tools, and other common business software applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to resolving purchasing, inventory, and supply chain challenges.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team environment.
  • Commitment to professionalism, accountability, confidentiality, workplace safety, and maintaining high standards of customer service and workmanship.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience within the Plumbing and Gas fitting industry is considered a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with mechanical construction materials, equipment, and procurement processes is preferred.
