Full job description

  • Location: Watson Lake, Yukon Territory
  • Job Status: Full Time Seasonal
  • Compensation: $48-$50/hr (trip rated)
  • Live out Allowance: $50/night
  • Travel: Expenses paid in and out for each shift
  • Benefits: Full Benefits include dental, life insurance, pharmaceutical, vision care, chiropractor, massage, EAP, and more. 100% paid by Stromsten
  • Schedule: Flexible Shifts Available:
  • 12-14 hour cycle times | 5-6 loads per week
  • 2 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 3 weeks on, 1 week off,
  • 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off
  • New equipment

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage cargo handling activities, ensuring loads are properly secured, equipment is prepared, safe work practices are followed, and all applicable Acts and Regulations are met.
  • Complete pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections on assigned equipment to confirm safe operation, roadworthiness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Follow all applicable laws and requirements related to safe vehicle operation, load securement, hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weight and dimension limits.
  • Adhere to company policies, site protocols, operating procedures, performance standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Safely and efficiently position trucks and trailers for loading and unloading, following direction from loading personnel when required, and confirming that the vehicle and any specialized loading equipment are properly aligned.
  • Operate loading equipment when required by the position.
  • Inspect mobile equipment, including front-end loaders, to confirm mechanical and safety systems are operating properly.
  • Immediately report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or equipment damage to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or hazards at loading sites, unloading areas, yards, shops, and other work locations.
  • Prepare, review, maintain, and verify all required paperwork and documentation, including bills of lading, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Use truck-mounted computers, CB radios, telephones, and other communication tools to exchange required information with dispatch, supervisors, terminals, and other drivers.
  • Complete electronic and/or paper logs for hours of service, vehicle service, repair status, and other required records in accordance with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Communicate professionally, clearly, and respectfully with customers, co-workers, supervisors, site personnel, and the public.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks as required.
  • Conduct inspections before, during, and after transport to ensure the load remains properly secured and safe for travel.
  • Ensure materials are protected from weather and environmental exposure, including tarping loads when required.
  • Clean up any debris or material resulting from loading or unloading activities.
  • Provide timely feedback to dispatch or supervisors regarding customer concerns, mechanical issues, delivery challenges, or other operational matters.
  • Treat customers, co-workers, contractors, and members of the public with professionalism and respect at all times.
  • Train and support other employees when required.

You Possess

  • Demonstrated experience driving in snow and installing tire chains when conditions require.
  • Ability to safely operate in adverse weather and challenging road conditions.
  • Super B and mountain driving experience considered an asset.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
  • Valid Class 1 driver’s licence and completion of MELT requirements.
  • Clean driver’s abstract or acceptable driving record.
  • Valid air brake endorsement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, including reading safety documents, completing reports, and communicating with dispatch and site personnel.
  • Physical ability to move up to 100 lbs, lift 50 lbs overhead, and lift up to 75 lbs to shoulder height.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test.
  • Willingness and ability to receive, understand, and follow direction.
  • Ability to participate in cross-training and learn all required facility functions.

Pay: $48.00-$50.00 per hour
