Ready to leave the unpredictable hours of standard restaurant kitchens behind? We are seeking a reliable and passionate Cook to join our food services team at the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) on the Halifax waterfront.


This unique culinary role offers the perfect blend of high-volume kitchen excitement and professional stability, featuring a Monday to Friday day-time schedule, and a supportive team environment. Job Responsibilities

  • Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary by Aramark location based on client requirements and business needs.
  • Cooks and prepare a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes
  • Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
  • Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items
  • Safely uses a variety of utensils including knives
  • Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
  • Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meat, vegetables, and other foods
  • Arranges, garnishes, and portions food according to established guidelines
  • Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
  • Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
  • Maintains excellent customer service and positive demeanor towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
  • Adheres to Aramark safety policies and procedures including accurate food safety and sanitation
  • Ensures security of company assets

Qualifications

  • 3+ years culinary experience preferably in institutional industries such as hospitals, higher education, or correctional facilities
  • Experience with large quantity batch cooking an asset
  • Working towards Journeyman or Red Seal Certification in the Cook trade or equivalent considered an asset
  • Valid WHMIS and Food Safe (Basic or Advanced), First Aid Certification is an asset
  • Knowledge of and commitment to upholding high standards of food safety and hygiene
  • Additional certification may be required by work location
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently supervised and unsupervised
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine desire to provide outstanding customer service
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to ensure smooth operations


This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).


This position is full time with a daytime Monday to Friday schedule. The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00.
