ABOUT OUR CHURCH:

East Parkland Bible Church is a multi-generational body of believers of approximately 150 people in Stony Plain, Alberta. We are Bible based, truth seeking believers with a strong focus on worship and discipleship. We value the building of relationships both within our church body and within our community. As a congregational led body, we are committed to living out our vision and mission. We are excited about where God is leading our church family and are looking for a lead pastor who will come along side and actively support and participate in this journey.

ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY:

Stony Plain is a small town, commuter community of approx. 17,000 near to all the urban amenities of Edmonton. It is part of the tri-municipal regions of Stony Plain, Spruce Grove and Parkland County. We have a quaint downtown with mom-and-pop businesses as well as the larger box stores only minutes away in Spruce Grove and Edmonton. Stony Plain and Spruce Grove are well mapped with walking and biking trails as well as Canada’s largest pickle ball facility!

We are located close to some of Alberta’s lakes as well as many great camping areas and golf courses.

Stony Plain boasts summer events such as Farmer’s Days with tractor pulls and rodeo; main street garage sales; Midsummer Thursday Nights; Bluegrass Festival and summer concert nights. It also features winter activities of Downtown Christmas light-up events and well-lit ice-skating at Rotary Park. It is also known for its cultural murals throughout town.

The City of Spruce Grove is approximately 40,000 people and sits 11 km west of Edmonton. Spruce Grove offers a private Christian school (Living Waters Christian Academy), as well as a public Christian school (Maranatha program). Stony Plain and Spruce Grove also have French Immersion schools.

Spruce Grove is home to the Tri-Leisure center and Heavy Metal Place sports facilities as well as Horizon Stage a performing arts centre. They also have a transit system linking Spruce Grove to Edmonton. Spruce Grove is home to the BCHL Saints and opening soon in Spruce Grove is the Energy City Metro Ballpark home of the WCBL Cactus Rats.

Edmonton International Airport is about 45 minutes away.

LEAD PASTOR

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

We recognize that a pastor is ultimately called by God, our desire is to be led by someone who has a passionate love for God and desires to live out that love in our community. He will have the spiritual gifts of shepherd, teacher, and evangelism. He will support the vision and mission, facilitate, encourage and participate in our strategic goals challenging our congregation.

TEACHER: He is someone who has a deep desire of learning and will use clear communication to share the Word of God, explaining and expounding on biblical truths with a practical application for learners.

SHEPHERD: He is someone who has the capacity and desire to serve God, overseeing, training and encouraging, caring for the needs of the body, creating an environment of growth in our relationship to God, each other and our community. He is self-aware and adept at using emotional intelligence to bring out the best in all types of individuals.

EVANGELISM: He is extroverted and personable with a desire to reach into the community with the Gospel of Christ. Supporting, encouraging and participating in outreach ministries, we will together grow the Kingdom of Heaven.

Position Overview

The Lead Pastor will serve as the spiritual leader of the church in collaboration with the Board of Elders, to provide Christ-centered preaching and teaching, pastoral care, and a commitment to equipping believers for service and outreach.

Qualifications

Spiritual and Personal Qualifications

  • A genuine love for Jesus Christ, His Word, and the ministry of the local church
  • A life marked by integrity, humility, and spiritual maturity
  • A clear pastoral calling evidenced by character and conduct, consistent with biblical leadership (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1)
  • A heart for teaching, shepherding, and discipling individuals in all stages of life
  • A commitment to prayer, personal devotion, and lifelong growth in faith
  • An approachable demeanor with strong interpersonal and relational skills using emotional intelligence
  • A unifying leader with the ability to motivate, equip, and build up the body of Christ

Professional Qualifications

  • Preferably holds a degree in theology, ministry, or a related field (B.A., B.S., or M.Div.) from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of five years of pastoral or ministry leadership experience is preferred
  • Ministry credentials recognized by the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada (AGC) or a willingness to obtain such credentials
  • Training and/or experience in discipleship, pastoral care, and leadership development would be an asset

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Work together with the Board of Elders to provide spiritual oversight and organizational leadership for the church in alignment with its vision, mission and values
  • Understand and support the vision, mission, and strategic direction of EPBC.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Elders in planning and executing church goals and strategies
  • Oversee the overall direction and coordination of church ministries, committees and operations
  • Encourage and support the development of church leaders and ministry Teams
  • Participate actively in regularly scheduled Board of Elders, Ministry teams, and church business meetings
  • Oversight and supervision of staff members

Preaching, Teaching, Prayer and Study

  • Prioritize personal study and prayer, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit for church direction
  • Participate with the worship team in the planning and delivery of Sunday worship services
  • Faithfully preach the Word of God with clarity, relevance, and doctrinal soundness
  • Teach and facilitate Bible studies, discipleship groups, or classes as needed
  • Participate with the Board of Elders in the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

Congregational Care

  • Provide personal care and pastoral support through regular phone calls, home and hospital visits, prayer, and encouragement to members, adherents, and others connected to the church
  • The pastor will be the primary contact with the new and visiting families of the church. He will contact them or visit them within 2 weeks of their first attendance. He will also visit all the adherents of the church within 2 years
  • Offering counsel throughout times of crisis and life events and/or referring congregants to qualified counsellors when deemed necessary
  • Officiate events such as weddings, funerals and baby dedications
  • Mentor emerging leaders within the congregation, offering guidance, encouragement, and training to support spiritual formation and leadership development

Evangelism

The pastor will work with the Board of Elders regarding the involvement with the local ministerial group and /or AGC participation

  • Encouraging and supporting church members in evangelistic efforts and Outreach

Remuneration

Salary and benefits compensation will be commensurate with experience and education and will be discussed with candidates who are selected to move forward in the hiring process.
