Full job description

Empringham Disposal is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Class 1 or Class 3 roll off truck driver to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, understands the waste and recycling industry, and enjoys coordinating people, routes, and equipment to keep operations running smoothly.

Empringham Disposal is a growing local waste and recycling company serving communities across Central Alberta. Since 2012, we have remained 100% locally owned and operated, committed to delivering reliable, community‑focused service. Our team provides a full range of solid waste and recycling solutions, including municipal collection, roll‑off container service, commercial front‑load programs, and waste transfer operations.

Key Responsibilities

Collections & Driving

  • Operate roll‑off collection vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Complete assigned bin delivery and pickup.
  • Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
  • Safely load, unload, and transport waste and recyclable materials to designated disposal or processing facilities.
  • Follow all traffic laws, company policies, and safety procedures at all times.

Customer Service

  • Interact professionally with customers, responding to questions or concerns in a courteous manner.
  • Report missed pickups, blocked containers, or contamination issues to dispatch or supervisors.
  • Maintain a positive and professional company image while working in the community.

Operational Duties

  • Record route information, load weights, and service issues using company systems or route sheets.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or route challenges.
  • Assist with container delivery, removal, or replacement as required.
  • Support occasional special collection events or seasonal programs.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all workplace health and safety procedures, including PPE requirements and safe lifting practices.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.
  • Report incidents, near misses, or injuries promptly and accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal transportation regulations.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver's licence
  • Clean driver’s abstract with a strong safety record.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous experience operating waste collection vehicles.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions.

Additional Skills

  • Strong driving skills with a focus on safety and situational awareness.
  • Ability to work independently and follow established routes and schedules.
  • Good communication and customer‑service skills.
  • Physical stamina to repeatedly lift, push, pull, and maneuver materials and containers.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to adapt to changing routes, weather, and operational needs.

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
  • Early morning start times; overtime or weekend work may be required.
  • Frequent lifting, climbing, bending, and walking.
  • Operation of heavy vehicles and exposure to traffic and waste materials.
  • Steel toed boots are required. This is considered a safety-sensitive position
