About Roots & Tales Clinic

Roots & Tales Clinic is a multidisciplinary child and family mental health centre dedicated to helping children grow, connect, and thrive. Our team of psychotherapists, occupational therapists, and clinicians work together to provide meaningful, hands-on support for children with diverse developmental needs.

Our Roots & Tales Summer Camp is a structured, play-based therapeutic program designed to support children’s emotional, social, sensory, and motor development in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment.

Position Summary

As a Summer Camp Facilitator, you will support the delivery of group-based therapeutic activities focused on:

  • Fine motor development
  • Sensory integration
  • Social interaction and communication
  • Gross motor skills

You will work under the supervision of experienced clinicians and play an important role in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children aged 4–12.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support clinicians during indoor and outdoor therapeutic activities
  • Engage children in structured group programs and play-based learning
  • Help with setup, organization, and cleanup of materials and spaces
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers
  • Encourage positive behaviour, inclusion, and participation
  • Assist with daily camp routines and light administrative tasks

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • 18 years or older
  • Interested in working with children, especially those with diverse needs
  • Studying or planning to study in:
  • Psychology
  • Child & Youth Care
  • Education
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Kinesiology or related fields
  • Patient, compassionate, and energetic
  • Strong in communication and teamwork
  • Comfortable following direction and working in a structured environment

Schedule Options (2-Month Commitment)

Choose one of the following:

  • 2 full days/week (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

OR

  • 3 half-days/week
  • Morning: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Afternoon: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience in a pediatric therapeutic setting
  • Exposure to real clinical approaches (sensory, behavioural, developmental)
  • Mentorship from experienced clinicians
  • Development of leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Reference letter and letter of completion upon successful participation

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have!)

Experience in any of the following is a strong asset:

  • Coaching or instructing (sports, dance, gymnastics, swimming)
  • Working in camps or with children
  • Leading activities or group programs
  • Creative or hands-on skills (arts, LEGO, games, movement)
